[BT] Intel Haswell, Nvidia GTX 780M laptops leak - Page 2

I can personally never understand the need for a gaming laptop.

Does one really need hardware intensive games on the go? If you want to play RTS an ultrabook is fine, no?

cant*?

honestly i see the benifits, however i myself would not require my laptop to pump out max graphics at 1080p to be happy.

Some people use it as a desktop replacement. Or in my case I require it for my job and school as well where I can't be lugging my desktop with me. Granted a dual gpu laptop might be overkill it is rather nice to have.

I know the recently released surface pro can handle a good chunk of games just fine. I can post pics later when I get home from work. But anything with the source engine aka Portal 2, Left 4 Dead 2, etc can run at 1080p on high settings without breaking a sweat. As an added bonus it was able to detect and use my wired xbox 360 controller for said games just fine.

Edit and for newer stuff I was able to run skyrim @1080p on low or 720p on medium

Am I the only one that doesn't mind thick laptops? It really doesn't affect anything other than weight, which isn't really an issue for me, unless I am doing something like travelling, which is infrequent.

I guess the cost of having a nice desktop and an entry-level laptop/netbook isn't worth it for most people these days that are hardcore gamers and also need something for work/school.

I mean with cloud networking these days the excuse of the hassle having to transfer over files should be ruled out.

If its a windows laptop that can have games, there is no reason why it shouldn't be able to comfortably play these games....

Some people prefer slim laptop like ultrabooks, some prefer power....

Don't see why people complain, want an e-reader? Go buy one, want performance either get a desktop or ultra high end laptop, if you don't want it to be thick good for you, buy a desktop then

If the 780m is a 680mx rebrand I'm totes getting one for my m17x r3

it doesn't help that the chassis pictured is an MSI brand which is known to have a really fat chassis and a 1990's look rolleyes.gif

even the Alienware laptops are thinner and just as powerful if not more so.

I wouldn't call the Sager below life threateningly thick as a 17.3 " DTR model with a 7970M and a i7 ivy quad, dual SSD and 16gb RAM

^ thats the average size of a DTR, yes its not an overpriced ultrabook that can slide into a bag for wimpy posers but then again its not meant to be. its for lounge / table top gamers who want to spend some time out of the bat cave and unless you have celery for arms they are still portable enough to carry to a mates house.

We are at the stage now where a 2012/2013 Gaming laptop can compete with a genuine high end desktop ! Personally I think that's amazing,

All the claims of performance from people who have ultrabooks with lower tier graphics. Lets see them play Battlefield, skyrim, the witcher, far cry 3, crysis 3 etc.. at over 60FPS with high to ultra settings @ 1080p let alone any mods.

go over to http://www.notebookcheck.net/ study some ultrabook reviews and gaming performance benchmarks, they seriously SUCK. On an ultrabook with a decent card for that type of machine ( GT640M for example) hitman absolution is running sub 20fps at 1366x768 on high. only on LOW and perhaps in some cases medium can the best ultra books muster 25-30fps at 1080p consistently and thats on weaker titles graphically like old source engine games
