FX4100 in a M5A97 overclock

Thread Starter
Hi all, I'm new to AMD and pretty new to overclocking, all I've ever done was overclock P4's and things like that like .5ghz. Anyways, I currently have my FX 4100 running at 4.1 GHZ but I have heard that they can go a lot higher, my specs are:

Mobo: Asus M5A97
CPU: AMD FX 4100 @ 4.1
Memory: Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1333mhz @ 1600mhz
PSU: 750w

And here is a screenshot of CPU-z and Speedfan:

any help would be appreciated, I'm just looking to see if there is any more I can push out of this cpu.

That CPU temp is at its limit, AMD chips shouldnt hit more than 64*C

Before anything please invest in a better cooler. Think something of a H80i if you want it cool, but dont be afraid to go extreme.

THAT IS HOT. Over spec.

And how'd you arrive at using that voltage? Sounds high.

Sounds to be like the notorious motherboard auto OC that pumps 2x as much voltage as needed :/

I left the voltage alone, thats just what the motherboard sets it at, Ill start by lowering it and setting a manual value.

Ill look into the h80i, im looking to spend around 30-50 on the cooler though.

Never use auto voltage.

$30-50 should get a very nice cooler. NZXT Havik or a Thermalright Macho are things I at one point in time looked at in my research. Other people should be able to help you out with much more informed suggestions though.

for $30-$50, you want a cooler master hyper 212 evo and pick up a second 120 mm fan for push pull. that will give you amazing cooling

Not amazing since adding a pull fan does 1-2C at most. The blademaster is amazing at static pressure but pretty loud. Hey you can get a 212+ non-evo, which performs practically the same. The evo doesn't use the blademaster.
http://slickdeals.net/newsearch.php#q=hyper+212&firstonly=1

I'd suggest buying something other than a 212 unless you have your computer on the floor and you just need plain basic cooling which will get the overclock done.

Thanks just lowered the clock so that its idling around 50c, Ill read that guide and check out that coolers and post back a little later.

Edit:

I checked out the coolers, I'm going to go with the 212 evo, I can pick it up at a local shop for about $30.
