First PC build - Wanting something quiet - Page 3

Is it as quiet as you hoped for?

The stock fans on the P280 are pretty damn sorry. I have 2 myself (one for my dad and one at work) and if I were to use them at home, I'd change the crappy fans.

Yeah, with the Antec fans on low I can barely hear it at all. With some music on, high isn't very noticeable. The case fans are easily the loudest fans in the case, but after shelling out all this money for the system, they'll do just fine for now... I'll probably wait until black friday to make any updates to this rig.

Case was bigger than I was hoping, but I'm sure I'll get used to it and I can't complain at how easy it was to manage cables.

If I knew how big the P280 was, I would have picked up some mATX cases instead. I use them as simple office computers and I have my regrets...

If you get the chance or when newegg has their sale on Cougar fans, I'd add a pair to the front of the case, trash the stock ones, and block off the top of the case. Also remove all those PCI covers so your GPU can breathe a bit better.

Hell, toss the rear fan right now as the NH-D14 fans can push more than enough to get heat out the back without that rear fan.

If the P280 were to be in my room, I'd easily hear the damn fans, but my ears are damn picky.

Imo the P280 is too big, its kinda like the 1100 with silencing properties, personally i find the Fractal Design Define R4 a much better size for ATX quiet build, or the Corsair 550D, but thats personal preferences, the P280 should perform very well, the only thing i would change is the fans toward some Scythe Slipstreams or Nexus Basics.

If I'm lying in my bed I can't hear the case fans at all on low. I thought it shut itself off while I was sleeping and I'm about 10ft away from the case. If im at my computer I can slightly hear it but whatever, it's a computer not an iPod

These days I always point people towards mATX (if they ask) unless they want to go SLI/Crossfire, or have more than 6 drives. For MOST people, an ATX tower will end up as just another big, mostly empty box. rolleyes.gif

Yup, that's why I sold my full tower and am waiting for the Caselabs S5. The S3 is actually a better size but there's no nice OCing mITX boards nor can the case fit my 4 slot GPU.

You have to take into consideration that the more dense your build is, the less heat dissipates which has to be balanced out with more airflow (noise) you need to achieve decent temps for a stable overclock. Have you ever been into a server room? That's my reasoning, I'll get used to the size.
