I recall a poll done a while ago where there were at least 10 people who had killed their chips.

Yeah, I was going to suggest that earlier, but I fell asleep.

You won't need to delid with Haswell. Intel won't do this mistake twice.
That's definitely not a mistake.

It's intended to save them money.

How much money did they lose from people killing their chips and buying new ones?

It's people who lost money, not Intel.

Link? I've asked about anyone who killed their ivies, delidding or otherwise around here many times. I seem to usually be ignored, but I have only heard about the guy who 'killed' his chip delidding but it turned out the problem was the cup of water he had spilled on his motherboard.... then there was that guy who couldn't run dual channel ram anymore (i still question if his cpu is really the problem there too, i'd be more inclined to believe his mobo, maybe even ram, was the problem) but he got like a 30*C temp drop so I'd say that was worth it.

Here is the poll I started. http://www.overclock.net/t/1323173/ivy-bridge-delid-success-rates/140_20

I think failures are being under reported. thumb.gif to OP for sharing. Maybe every IHS is attached differently ? I used the blade in my Avatar and found it very easy to do.

That's the one I was thinking of.

completely wrong. They are using TIM because with the smaller die sizes and the changes in heat solder was having issues of working properly. Intel might be saving money but they are still giving us the best they can because the solder had issues with the tiny die sizes compared to the last few generation.

That's what my understanding is too. I wonder if Haswell will have the same issues ? By the way your folding team rank is Evil... best you get folding or drop two places to 668 - Neighbour of the Beast.
