Titan SLI vs GTX 680 3 way sli - Page 4

I found a graphical representation of moving from 680 SLI to Titan SLI:

No patience for 780? doh.gif it's not like there is something you can't run right now. Even by OCN standards this is funny.

That's cute, but its really not accurate. 3D vision surround, and on occasion even regular surround, isn't great on tri sli 680s at max detail. I just moved to the Titan tri sli setup and things that weren't playable became playable.

Is it "worth it"? I don't know. No one can answer that because its subjective. Is a Ferrari 458 worth more than a base 911? I think so. Someone who prefers riding a moped would say they're both a waste.

Objectively though its simply wrong to imply that 680 sli can "handle anything". There is gaming happening beyond a 1080p panel and it tends to happen in places like here on OCN. Those are obviously real, if niche, scenarios as proven by the fact that they're being catered to.

I think that's why so many don't "get" Titan. If someone is perfectly happy running a single 1080p, then the card wasn't designed for them. It was specifically designed for two cases: Ultra high end (in sli) and, ironically, SFF

I totally agree with you my friend...

I have a GTX 680 three way SLI rig and i was severely dissapointed when i tried to run Crysis 3 on Max..
It was super slow and laggy...and i cant stand that...

I hope i had the money to spend three grand on three Titans right now but i just dont..
I really consider them to be like 50% overpriced..
If they were at $750 they would sell like pancakes...I would definitelly buy the three... I think NVIDIA would get more money that way i think...
I hope the new Maxwell architecture do not copy this tactics of overpricing the top of the line graphics card because it would be really sad...
Since AMD no longer poses a threat for them they have us grabbed by the bal$$...

We´ll see.

I happen to think that if you own one or more Titans, and you AREN'T Folding on it/them, then you're kind of a selfish little prick... thumb.gif

I have 2 680 and added a third 4gb. Had to switch back to drivers 310 to make them work together,
Now I play crysis 2 online with 3 1080 monitor, If I higher the details the game isn't 100% smooth anymore, but fps are fine. So for me it was already a waste adding a 680. Last summer I tried 2 gtx 690, and on 2 different mobo+cpu I had lot of stuttering unplayable. So I sold them.

Now to make things run better it is really only with titans and thats a 2000 or 3000 expense.

(Probably if I change the 2 680 2gb with 4 gb ones I get a bit better results cos of newer drivers, but still not how it should be.

I fully understand all the console players.

And there is a bad new, 780 cards will be priced at 7-800$.
We need amd making a better job, if there is no competition we f***** and have to accept nvidia prices.
Ok I believe those cards are hard to make, but already 600$ for a titan would be expensive.

I think right now, GTX Titan SLI is probably the best high-end GPU setup for Nvidia Surround/Single Screen rigs. Anything less is going to be less powerful, anything more is not going to be worth the money.

meanwhile I bought 2 titans.
With crysis 2 online on 5700x1080 res, I'm not getting much difference compared to 3 gtx 680.

so I bought a third titan.
Discovered that as the titan cover is on metal, it gets way more hot than triple sli 680. And... Performance whise it isn't worth it at all.

I now can play on extreme but with still some slowdown.
It is very loud with fans at 70-80% not suggested at all.

All this is with a 17 3930k at 4,5ghz.
Have to OC more the cpu to see a difference i believe.

If you want surroung wait for new amd cards to come out, when price drops get 2 gtx780.
Or get now 3 gtx 670, or 680. For second hand.

Don't waste money on gtx titan
