A c2q to a first gen APU?

You're talking about replacing a cpu that was $400 at launch to one that launched at $60?????? I dont care if its 4 years newer its no upgrade

Price doesn't mean jack diddly squat, the 8800 ultra was over 1200 when it launched, today a 100 dollar gpu will dropkick it across the room, the APU while may not the best example of what to buy has alot of advantages against a dated cpu such as the core 2 quad.

Not to mention C2Q's inherent other problems that will not be named here.

No way in Hades can an A4 beat a Core 2 Quad at anything other than power consumption.

To the original poster, reinstall Windows. Your current machine is just fine for what you want to do with no upgrades.

It's minimum frames will be without a doubt higher in quite a few more modern games purely because (Lets take wow for instance)

You load up, Zone into a raid
SPell effect happens

Data is received via ethernet port> FSB>CPU>FSB>RAM>FSB>CPU>FSB>HDD>FSB>GPU>FSB>CPU

Vs
Data is received via ethernet port (on core i/Amd) >HT/dmi>cpu+ram+gpu+hdd.

The FSB is what made the core 2 series an absolutely terrible choice for mmorpg's and alot of newer games use similar loading styles, IE loading on demand when it needs it, Not to mention abysmal clock speeds, Ddr2, Lack of more modern tech, I'd get him to look at a second gen quad core apu because it'll take a dump on that Core 2 quad.

To pull up something way back a while ago when i had a core 2 quad Q6600 and a phenom II x2 550, You'd think the quad would win, 90% of my games had higher min framerates with 9600GT sli when using the phenom, the only one that didn't was Command and conquer 3, But even that was less spikey on the phenom

how many C2Q-rigs did you build and OC. what well known problems? its so rofl.
see, a q6600 is very similar to a q9300 which i had used @ 3.6ghz paired with a GTX580.
I began hardcore modding skyrim / gta4 and some other well games games that will not be named here
and reached quickly the limits to get cpu bnecked. but this was witha 16GB big skyrim version with ultrahd mods, enb and and and.

so it is a clear case that his cpu fits good the the gpu he has. no offense but i´ve built many systems the last years, this is the reason why i would see it as a downgrade too,

Yes its not a "true" quad, but its more of a quad than fx4xxx.

Sure it doesnt have some of the newer instruction sets, sure video cards have come a long way.

But you cant tell me with a straight face an A3 APU is better than his q6700.

I just sold a phenom ii x3 be i had running at 3.6ghz, so i can play with c2q and some old school fsb oc.

this, my suggestion was only if he is trigger-happy and want to upgrade his sys a little also. but he should see quite good benefits from OCing.

Hate to break it to you, But, 2 core 2 duos strapped together with super glue isn't more of a quad core then an actual quad core, Despite how you think Fact is the FX series are true quad, Hex and octo cores, There is no "hyper therading" or fake cores, Or anything similar to that nature.

And as for above, I already described some of the problems in my edited post.

If you're near a Microcenter, you should be getting the 3570K/Z77 deal, without blinking an eye!!!!

3570 for $189 and $50 off any Z77 right now. It's really a no-brainer, the IB will absolutely destroy any AMD offering even if you only mildly OC it.

I have two 3570K setups and they are both incredible machines even at a completely modest 4.0GHz turbo OC.

The Gigabyte Z77X UD3H is a great pricepoint for that deal and I'm really happy with that board.
