So... it's been 5 years since I've touched my computer - Page 5

While Intel does have the upper hand I think a lot of people in this thread are overestimating the C2Q's performance. The Q6600 is roughly on par with an A6-3650 in terms of performance, you can check out benchmarks to back that up. The A6-3650 is an $80 CPU.

Time does march on and one of the best stories I have about that is when a customer came into the repair shop I work at. They had an old computer whose video card had died, it was an agp board. Well the only used AGP card I had was a Geforce 2 Ultra, a card that sold for over $500 when it was new. I sold it to him for $19.99.

Eventually even our GTX680's and 7970's will be selling in some shop for $20. Don't ever forget that.

In any case OP should just get his computer repaired.

Maybe fix you current PC? It probably needs a fresh Windows install then some cleaning with compressed air. Its not a good idea to change parts to play a game like LOL considering its not that demanding. Save your money.

Thanks for some of the advices. But i forgot to mention, it does have a fresh install of Windows 7, about 2 months ago. But there's still BSOD.

I'll be going to microcenter in a bit. Have 400 with me. Going to debate between i5 and the AMD processor.

And no, i don't need to bring my computer to a budget shop to get it fixed. That's not the problem. I can pinpoint which hardware is failing on me. But this is my new excuse to find a setup that's slightly better than my Q6700. I believe it's my motherboard that is failing on me.

I've tried to overclock it to 3.4 ghz, but it would crash non stop. Which this processor overclocked to 3.8 ghz on my evga 780i easily.

I just want to give AMD a try because the 8 cores sounds so "cool." But i know an overclocked i5 would perform just as well. If not, better.
I'm also basing my comparison between processors by using the benchmark on anantech.com

Right now, i'm doing some stress test to see if i can repeat the BSOD. (only happens on cold start.)
To which i think, it might be the motherboard OR the harddrive. I've switched to my q6600 and it still BSOD. Also changed my rams. Still BSOD.

You can even go with an i3, most (if not all) of the tasks you listed are single threaded . Since you are near a MC, you might as well get an i5-3570k and Z77 mobo since you get $50 off.

What did you end up buying?

I am sure it's the motherboard that is holding you back on your 775 system, The Nvidia chipsets for 775 was never great at anything.

As Ironman517 mentioned, your titles are not multi threaded and you can have all the cores you want, it wont help you if the cores running the game aren't up to the task.
