Yea your school is completely different than what I have available here. Technically I can take both Computer Science AND Computer Engineering at Purdue (the engineering school) but CS is all Ball State has, since in Indiana, Purdue takes pride in its engineering majors, and anyone that wants to major in anything engineering has to go to Purdue. The CS at Ball State is almost strictly programming as far as I know.

Gotcha! Well anyway, I'm sure you'll find your stay here to be quite enjoyable devil.gif Provided you follow the main rule. NOTHING is too extreme.

So I could have an entire system submerged in mineral oil and that wouldn't be too extreme? tongue.gif

No, this is not too extreme... Cost you an arm, a leg, and the soul of your unborn child but it can be done. Maximum overclocking reached with minimum work.

I've actually seen it, too....on Linus Tech Tips lol tongue.gif Not something I would want to do. I'm thinking more of an extreme watercooling build with a 450mm tube as a res, but I can't decide if I want to go ultra clean with it or have the res in a 5.25 drive bay. DECISIONS DECISIONS!!!!

Latter not ladder.

Going straight from a laptop to a water-cooled first build? :O

do you play games on your laptop? if you don't end up getting into PC gaming it could end up being a giant waste of money...or a glorious achievement. I don't want to deter you from building something amazing, just hope you will fully utilize it!! biggrin.gif

I can, and did....just not very well. Could barely play Shift on low, but Portal 1 & 2 ran pretty well on a 6620G. Rainbow Six: Vegas, though.....forget about it.

and it would be a GLORIOUS ACHIEVEMENT!!!! for no reason biggrin.gif other than I built it and could probably convince people on a college campus to pay me to build something just as amazing.

Mehhh, mineral oil computers are more novel than anything else. They actually aren't efficient at all in heat dissipation because once the components start working the oil around them just gets warmer and warmer. The only way to make it really work is with a pump to move the oil around, and you'd be hard pressed to find a pump that could do this without being ruined quickly.

At OP, if you'd like to build a new system just let us know what you'll be doing with it and what games you'd like to play. Also a budget really helps us give you the best bang for your buck.

Welcome to OCN
