Hmm what to do with these

I recently did some work for a new friend. He had a rig that was pretty decent, but not really up to par for what he wanted to do. So I ordered him a barebones and a decent video card. He spent around 600 and pretty much the only thing he used from his old rig was the HDD and the Tower/PSU (750w). He didn't know what he really had and nether did I before we started to replace the old with the new.
His new rig is now better then what I have and I am a bit jelly. He asked what I wanted as payment and I said I will take any of the parts you don't want and he said ok. He gave them ALL to me.

So as a payment for helping him get what he needed and putting it together I got this.

Brand New Ultra Gladiator ATX Tower
Brand New Ultra 750W PSU
AMD Phenom X4 9850 Black Edition 2.5Ghz
ASUS M3A78-T Mobo
2GB DDR2 Ram.(Buffalo 800Mhz)
IDE DVD Drive
He also gave me his free copy of Dirt 3 that came with it.

Not bad for a 2 hour job. Took 3 hours total with travel and sitting around eating pizza and talking with him and his gal.

What I did was replace my 450W PSU and my old craptastic APEVIA X-Dreamer II Tower with the new products mentioned above(Tower and PSU). As the tower is much better looking and came with 2 120MM LED fans as opposed to my old case which had 2 80MM LED fans. So that alone was worth it I think. I checked the value of those two products alone on newegg and they are worth $130.00.

I still have my old parts from my upgrade. My old Phenom X4 9150e 1.8Ghz and the MSI board and the 6GB DDR2 800Mhz ram and a Nvidia GTS 250 OC

So my question is, what should I do with it...The only thing I am falling short on is a HDD in order to build a rig up.

Should I make it:
OC toy?
Server?
Sell the parts?
Build a rig and sell it as a whole?

Well I would but my 42 inch wifi ready tv is right next to my pc now. All I do is plug in the HDMI cord when I want to watch movies from my pc. Also it has wifi so It already connects to Netflix and stuff. So I don't think I really need a HTPC.

The only thing missing is a HDD...and I would have another rig. I don't really want to spend any money on one though because I don't really have it to spend. I wish I could trade out my 9150e and msi k9n2 sli platinum mobo for a decent HDD, but I don't know anyone who would even want those parts.

Do you need a server, htpc, etc?

The 378-T is a pretty decent board. You may get a bit of money for it but you'd be better off trading it for Ale8.

Part it out and save up for the next upgrade.

Well...if all you want on your TV is netflix then you don't need a HTPC.
But if you find yourself wanting to play games on your TV or watching local content from a HDD.......then I would suggest it.

I would build a server, mine currently functions as a Teamspeak, minecraft and file server tongue.gif
I am going to set it up as a home proxy pretty soon too since I tend to max out my allocated data from my ISP...

I was thinking of making it a server because I always wanted one. Plus I do pay $16.00 a month for a Minecraft server as of right now.

I really need to get a hold of a 500GB hard drive...I don't need it to be SSD or anything as this is my first run at a server..

Then drop that MC server and use no-ip.org to host your server from home! thumb.gif I actually use a 32GB SSD for my server's OS (debian) and MC server files. And then I bought a 3TB HDD for the file server portion.

I built my first "server" with random old parts I had lying around. Admittedly it was just a file server and a backup host, but it was a start. Its very addictive too - now I have 3 "servers" at home (1 purpose-built, 1 slightly damaged out-of-warranty laptop, and 1 built from random parts), and 3 more VPS's in a datacenter in Vegas.

Install a copy of Ubuntu Server and its a great way to start "Linux-ing" (as I like to call it tongue.gif) - run a web server, a backup server (try Crashplan), and/or a storage server. A lot of people around here are very knowledgeable and are more than willing to help you, as long as you're willing to learn. You definitely won't regret it.

OR, you could stick a decent GPU in it and do 24/7 GPU folding, if thats more your thing. But you could also do GPU folding in conjunction with the server applications I mentioned.
