where have you been it's been all over the news with it's controversial all ways on line DRM and lack of game play included in previous titles.

Personally i'm gonna skip all this nonsense and buy SimCity 4 on steam.

nothing but problems for me here. I bought the physical version. installed & updated fine but downhill from there. The game crashes often "when" i can get into a server. I played 5 minutes of a game and the game crashed. I waited 20mins in "line" to only have the timer reset and start over. I just tried to play on a European server and i cannot claim any city at all. Yep great game so far im loving all of it.

Played ~5 hours total today split between 2 computers (my AMD A10 laptop runs it surprisingly well).

Origin no-games bug was instantly fixed by restarting my computer.
Install "problems" were all instantly fixed by restarting the launcher.
Have yet to see a queue, played on US 1 last night and have played on EU West the rest of the time.
Only server issues I saw was once every 20-40 minutes I'd get 2-3 minutes where I wasn't buying any utilities from my other city (using a private region). Bad things happen when you're suddenly behind 50+ kgal or kwatts an hour, but I just looked up pause time for these situations and I took 2-3 minutes to look in greater detail rather than watch bad things happen.

Other random thoughts:
City size is small, but that just means it gets hard a lot faster.
Specialization is a must, once your city is large enough the simple combo of a recycling center and a trade port can get you ~12k income shots once every couple in-game hours.
The expo center is great for shots of income, but the more often you use it the less effective it is.
Wind power is great for starting a city off, but solar is just incredible once you've got the advanced panels.
Pushing your tech level up is very hard, I had 4/5 education level but only just got into tech level 2/3. Your industry is going to move faster than your workforce, so you get a lot of turnover on your factories, have to keep up with abandoned buildings.

I used the hotkey for the $100k boost. It made my city feel tainted. Since it was already tainted I just kept going. It's not the same anymore and I'm now going to abandon a ~120k city and its neighboring 30k city because it all feels tainted poke.gif

I love SC, but imo the drm drops its value to $20. I don't have a stable connection (x100 when it rains) and EA is on my sitlist. thumb.gif

Remember how SimCity 2000 was this game you could play on your laptop, or PC, anywhere, any time? Remember how you could just enjoy huge amounts of time with what is surely one of the best games ever made whenever and however you wanted? Not any more! And at this point we’re only just beginning to see the issues arising from this online entangling. Softpedia say that it’s taking up to three hours for the game to unlock due to server struggles. Kotaku are reporting that neighbouring cities can ruin your game. And Ars Technica discussing how many ways the game has let them down.
Bahaha... thank you EA/Maxis for ruining SimCity (again, SC:Socs). Here's hoping the jolly rogers will shanghai this scurvy infested game.

This is rediculous in regards to how much freaking GPU horsepower this game needs, all while my CPU is hardly doing anything. Look at my load on just this particular screen shot alone when my city is just starting to get built and this is with no AA and with adaptive VSYNC on!

How many threads does the game actually run?

if you liked the Sim City games, at all... you're not going to want to miss this.

The GAME is solid... their distribution and handling of game processes is the issue.

I'm too lazy to search, but there was another News thread about how SimCity is single-threaded, much of the cpu work is done server-side.

Awesome attempting to play the game but I can't because "login is closed at this time", regardless of what server I choose. Starting to want my $60 back. This is ridiculous.
