Are you even for real right now? micro transactions = DLC and it is referred to as DLC within every game i've played - and it is only for cosmetic stuff and early upgrades. IT IS DLC. THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE. All of the DLC is optional and isn't required for completion. Piling on EA while ignoring every other publisher doing the same thing is by definition = ultimate hypocrite.

as far as you know. None of the DLC in dead space 3 is even remotely required. It is optional just like every other game i've played, let me name a few:
These also have tons of microtransactions:
Batman: AC (did you whine about this title? No? Hypocritical much?)
Assassin's creed brotherhood
Assassin's creed revalations
Asasssin's creed 3
Bioshock 1
Bioshock 2
Borderlands
Borderlands 2
Call of duty (all of them)
Darksiders 2
Dead Island
Dragon Age: Origins
Dragon Age 2
Skyrim
Dead Rising 2
Street Fighter X Tekken
Street Fighter 4
LA Noire
Hitman Absolution
Tomb Raider

That's just thinking of recent titles i've played. These all have microtransactions, most of them have WAY MORE than dead space 3.

You didn't whine about the above titles did you? Nah.

LOL

None of those games have in-game purchases for consumable in-game items, or shortcuts a la the BF3 unlock DLC. That's the problem with Dead Space 3, you can buy upgrades for real money.

Especially when you play in a 64-slot server filled with apt commanders/squad leaders on both sides. Those matches were some of the most spectacular battles I've ever played in. It was the only time where I sat back afterwards and said to myself "wow, this is probably the closest I will ever come to experiencing a live combat situation without having to enlist in the military."

You obviously have no clue what micro-transactions are.

Bioshock - Minerva's Den
Boerlands - several additional quests
Dragon Age Origins - Witch Hunt
Skyrim - Dawnguard

Get the point? When he says DLC he means expansion packs. That's totally different from in-game transactions that offer cheats. Upgrade weapons because you don't want to learn the nuances of victory. The ones listed actually EXTEND gameplay - not simplify existing gameplay.

Rumors of Dead Space’s Demise Are False, Says Studio and EA

A report earlier this morning, citing unidentified sources, suggested that Electronic Arts had terminated its Dead Space franchise—including work on an unannounced Dead Space 4—in light of poor sales of Dead Space 3. The game’s studio says the rumors are false, and EA itself disputes the portrayal of Dead Space as a troubled brand.

“The reports of our death were greatly exaggerated,” said Dino Ignacio, a member of the Dead Space development team, over Twitter. Another Visceral Games developer, writing on NeoGAF, called the rumor “completely false based on my knowledge.”

An EA spokesperson at first told Kotaku that the company wouldn’t comment on rumor or speculation, but later added: “While we have not announced sales data for Dead Space 3, we are proud of the game and it remains an important IP for EA.” In another statement to Kotaku, echoing comments made elsewhere, she called the rumor “patently false.”
