Didn't someone just recently reverse engineer some mod tools?

bf2 had special forces 30$, euro force 10$, armored fury 10$ which together cost the same amount as premium and come with the same amount of maps/content.

But the game, the base, is still very playable without those expansions. I seem to only have the option of 3 Conquest maps when I go to play BF3 online. Is that the case, or do servers simply only play Metro, Firestorm, or Caspian? In BF2 Karkand was free, Jalalabad was free. What new free conquest maps is BF3 getting?

I also don't know why someone who has owned BF1942, BF2, BFBC2, and now BF3 gets no in game perk, or a deal. Seems like EA could have been nice to fans of the franchise.

Debatable. BF2:SF brought grappling hooks, zip lines, tear gas, gas masks, and night vision, which were pretty awesome gadgets. The other expansions were pretty weak IMO. If BF3 had given us this stuff (and I mean across all maps) I think people would feel a better value out of it.

Well to be fair, Karkand was part of the base game. You might be referring to Wake Island (J10/Artillery Spam before admins took control of a map that was). Let's not gloss over the fact that in BF2, a large population of servers were also playing a very limited map pool (I distinctly recall loads of dragon valley, karkand and wake)

I'll give you that the free maps offered to BF2 were pretty good, but as a whole I think BF3's expansion support was far superior to BF2's. If you wanna talk about bang for your buck new gadgetry in an expansion however, you couldn't really beat Northern Strike for BF2142.

But BF2 didn't need the expansion support, is what I'm getting at. We played loads of rotating map servers in BF2. I've yet to play on a populated rotating map server in BF3. And it's always the same 3 maps. Are there not more conquest maps??

I think the last act of DICE that wasn't engineered by EA was releasing the 1.5 patch for BF2. Combines everything, removes the need for a disc in the drive. Now I'm really hoping for a reskinned BF2 if the mod tools for BC2 and BF3 actually amount to anything.

edit- maybe I confused maps. Wake was added later on? Regardless, I had plenty of very decent nights playing Wake Island. Jalalabad was a great addition too.

If you have premium you should check out the armored kill and aftermath maps, they are the best maps in the whole game, if not don't bother.
