I think the last act of DICE that wasn't engineered by EA was releasing the 1.5 patch for BF2. Combines everything, removes the need for a disc in the drive. Now I'm really hoping for a reskinned BF2 if the mod tools for BC2 and BF3 actually amount to anything.

edit- maybe I confused maps. Wake was added later on? Regardless, I had plenty of very decent nights playing Wake Island. Jalalabad was a great addition too.

I recall most bf2 servers being 24/7 karkand IO, it was actually quite rare to find a server that played anything but karkand, wake and sharqi.

Maps such as Fu She Pass and Operation Clean Sweep were literally never played, I thought operation clean sweep was enjoyable but I guess others did not think so.

I enjoyed bf2 but I thought the gunplay was quite poor, 2142 gunplay was far superior. I also moved to mods such as POE2 and Forgotten Hope 2 fairly quickly.

Looks like fun.

Haven't touched BF3 since just after close quarters came out, but its about time to play again by the looks of it.

I don't know what to say. I've played since launch day and there are plenty of servers that had/have good map rotations. But that all depends on what you like. I've noticed more servers cater to a certain DLC or two, so you might have to go through the super painful process of changing servers every once in awhile. Servers tend to specialize because that's what the community wants, and they want to keep their servers as full as possible. I don't know what 3 maps you are referring too. You can't expect a server to rotate through all the maps.

What I find strange are the servers that stick to one map, and are always populated. Talk about boring.

I agree with sausageson, all i remember was playing these three maps all the time.

Whenever I played, and even now, there are rotations of Karkand, Wake, Sharqi, Fu She, Clean Sweep, Jalalabad, and now Euro Forces maps. So, to only have 3 map options in BF3 for conquest is ridiculous.

I only have the base game, I don't think the expansions are worth it at their current price. If I search for games using all the Conquest filters, 48-64 players, punkbuster, and Ranked(if I select map rotation I get the same results), and only with my version of the game, the only maps I'm seeing now are Metro, Kharg, Noshahr Canals, and Caspian. The Noshahr map is the first time I've seen it, and the ping is questionable. Kharg Island seems to be less popular, most of the servers when I've played recently have been 24/7 Caspian, Metro, or Firestorm.

Only one of the servers out of the 8 that I'm seeing is a non-air map rotation. The rest are 24/7 just one map. Unless I'm using the filters incorrectly, this seems pretty limited.

I see map rotations on bf3 so im not sure what you are talking about as for the expansion maps they are the best maps in the game, in fact saying that bf3 maps are bad without playing the armored kill and aftermath maps, just makes your opinion void. the xpac has been on sale for 20$ or sofor 16 maps (20 if u dont own karkand) its a great deal.

BF3 was never suppose to be a long platform to begine with.

Coincidentally, that is why this pack is called "end game"...   ur stating an obvious point. But like you said, being the last pack takes nothing away from BF3 being a great game.

BF4 will be one of the best. DICE is going back to Commanders & BF2 style of warfare & objectives.

Add-in  the fact that 4gb of memory is beyond common & dx11 solidified in the consumer base..      along with how cheap dx11 cards r going to be this xmass . ..you have the perfect storm brewing!

What makes you think BF4 will have commander?

BF4 will be just like BF3. A console game with no features that made any of the battlefield games battlefield. Just a lot of hype and no delivery in the end unless you're one of these new generation kids that think rush mode is what battlefield is about. Well, was about, battlefield is dead and they should just call it another game. They're just using the franchise name for sales. Something they admitted when talking about BF4 just recently.

http://www.examiner.com/article/battlefield-4-announcement-coming-tomorrow

Quote:
Recently, "Battlefield" executive producer Patrick Bach talked about some of the risks involved with creating a new Intellectual Property (IP).

"'Battlefield 3' could have been released almost as a new game because there are so many differences [between it and its predecessors].

"But the problem then is that players seem to want sequels, they like the next iteration of the game they love, and even if people say they want new IPs, when new IPs arrive no one cares, they don't buy them, so I still don't understand why people see it as a problem when they're part of, they're creating the problem.

"I would love for people to buy new IPs and prove with their wallet what they mean, instead of blaming someone else. There's a big chunk of money you invest in games so you want at least your money back," Bach said.

The irony, he's finally admitting it now.

I sincerely hope they don't outsource the in-game interface like BF3. Not that it's the biggest draw back but it was quite annoying.
