Looks sick.

I don't get all the hate and complaining about this game when its the best looking and structured FPS out there.

Oh no, I sure hope I wasn't coming off hostile either...I was genuinely interested in what your definition of the core game was for battlefield. However, I was referring to the series of battlefield and not just BF3. BF3 is where core changed.

However, I think you have the sand box idea wrong.

You are just calling it a sandbox because you can move around the map in different ways. Sure I can chose to left, or I can chose to go right, or climb a ladder up, or chose to drive though a wall, but you have those kinds of choices in all sorts of games. Would you consider Team Fortress 2 a sandbox game? You can pick a class, you can pick a weapon.

When they talk about a sand box game they mean a game with no barriers...yes you can go any where you want, but it isn't just the physical movement meant by that. It means there is no story or goals holding your character back. They are free to do what they want. X3 is a great sand box game...you literally can do whatever you want; fight pirates, raid innocent traders, be every ones' friend, perform acts of genocide on a whim, be a trader making billions of credits a day, or a blood thirsty militant. Anything.

In BF3...or any multiplayer shooter...the goal is to win the match. You can't start a hotdog stand in the middle of the metro map. I suppose you just go running around exploring or something or try to beat your record for free falling or whatever...but you are considered to lose the game if you don't go kill the enemy. A true sandbox game can't even be won. That is why you will hear the term "sandbox-like" because some are close...like Oblivion. You can go explore and do side quests but eventually you have to go back to the main quest.

I should have been more accurate about what a sandbox game is. It's usually an open world where you're free to go around and do whatever you want. Just Cause 2, Fallout 3 and New Vegas, Grand Theft Auto, Red Faction: Guerilla, etc. are all sandbox games. Terraria and Minecraft are examples of complete sandbox games. Battlefield 3 is not a sandbox game. Destructible environments doesn't exactly mean it is.

I will admit I have not had any other game so such a good job of mixing infantry and vehicle combat. That includes BF3. So it still has that going for it. Though if I am in a chopper or in a tank (I hate the jets...they seem like they are barely moving. I feel like I fly faster in the chopper) I could careless what the rest of team or squad is doing and they could careless what I am doing. The hole team idea has been replaced with getting your name high on the result chart at the end.

Are you really going to say Fallout 3 and NV are anything like UT? Same with ArmA and America's Army? There's so many sub-genres out there and if you really think about it, you'll see how silly what you're trying to say sounds. tongue.gif

BF3's teamwork really isn't all that different from BF2's and 2142 despite missing certain features. A team that works together will still always win against a team that doesn't. That's not the case in games like CoD and other arcade/twitch/arena shooters. Heck, one person can carry a whole team on their back in CoD. That's simply not possible in Battlefield 3.

A sandbox has borders, but everthing within its walls are open for each & every player's desire.

U can be in an airplane, I can b somewhere else... takimg a flag, while somone else can be doimg their thing = sandbox.

Open gameplay..

To me the core of the game was the commander and squads working together to fulfill objectives...which led to your entire team working together. Something no other game had to my knowledge. Now that is taken away for the most part and all you are left with is the running and the gunning.

And how can you say that no one used the voip? Off of the experience of a couple hours of playing? I think I used it in almost every match I ever played. There were some games I played squadless just because I was working on getting a certain medal or something, but if I was in a squad...I was on the mic. Even on the rare occasions when people didn't have a mic they could still hear me. Some times I would get in a squad and it would be silent at first, but once I started talking every one else usually did too. Some times no one would talk and not work with me and I'd move to another squad and it would be fine. Every match of BF2142 I could always find a good squad. At least on the servers I played on.

I've only put about 60 hours into BF3...so I am no expert on the inner workings of it, but you don't need to know that to feel what is missing.

No the core of battlefield is not voip and commanders; that was only introduced in bf2 anyways, by your logic bf1942 was not a battlefield game even though it was the first in the series.

Battlefield core gameplay is integrating infantry and vehicle gameplay in a more team organized fashion, servers have ts but you probably refuse to use it to be stubborn. I played bf2 alot, nobody used voip, the ones who were talking would be on the servers ts anyways. The Commander was most of the time useless, 90% of the time failing to give/update orders or use anything other than the artillery, which he used to kill his own guys.

Most servers in bf2 were 24/7 karkand IO people cared more about kills/points than working as a team and thats why they would nade spam on that map.

60 hrs? Did you even unlock team gear like the soflam, javelin, citv station, mav? let me guess no and even if you did you did not bother to try it out.

I think this game would have been better with viop but remembering back to BF2 not many did use it. Commander was good when someone knew how to use it but most of the time people who didn't just used it just called artillery and uav wherever the biggest battle was. I also remember that commander was given to whoever had the highest score because most people assumed that they knew how to use it the best way possible.

Edit: Forgot to add this but does anyone think they'll have a sale when end game comes out or should I buy premium with the 20% discount that GMG has right now?

I don't know what servers you were playing on...but most of the time commander made BF2 way more team oriented.

Spotting + UAV was huge, seems like no one spots in BF3. Arty is super important too when retaking a flag. Not to mention how helpful the care package was or vehic drop when you are stuck in butt-eff of nowhere.

Having air superiority mode without 2-seat jet really sucks.

Nade spam in BF2...yeah surely you've played 64p Metro map in BF3 which is 1000x worse.

Why should anyone have to rely on 3rd party voip when it's supposed to be in the game? To say BF series isn't meant for teamwork is Ludacris. All you need is VoIP within squads...really...it's not that hard. if you aren't in a squad with friends you cant expect everyone to join up in some random TS server.

Don't forget a lot of previous BF titles have mod support.

I will give the gunplay to BF3 tho...definitely much better.
