choosing the right CPU for my friend

Thread Starter
hey! i'm fairly new here at OCN smile.gif

i have been discussing with my friend for the past month or so which CPU he should get for his new pc.

i've faced him with 3 choices - i5-3570k. i7-3770k and AMD FX-8350

instead of me saying the same arguments to him all the time, i wanted to hear your opinion.

he will mainly be using this pc for playing call of duty whilst streaming. he will also create some youtube videos.
If he's streaming then I'd definitely go with the FX-8350, it really excels when doing multiple tasks. If he's rendering YouTube videos then it's also very quick.

8350 is great for video editing and multi-threaded applications. Plus it is around $190, about 2/3 the cost of an i7. Spend that saved money on decent graphics and Mobo.

thanks!

and if i may ask, 8 or 16GB of RAM?
8GB 2x 4GB kit is more than enough for Video editing. Make sure to buy a 1600Mhz with CL10 or CL9.

thanks! i appreciate your help smile.gif

As much as I am an Intel fanboy, the 8350 is faster then both the 3570k and the 3770k overclocked. Its unfortunate, but get the 8350. Make sure the motherboard is good for overclocking. Something like a Gigabyte UD3 will do the trick.

so everyone says get the FX-8350???

sorry folks but quicksync is used for that minimal transcoding and will beat any software based (read: cpu) transcoding method with barely any used resourses. and we are also talkiing about playing COD here, not a cpu bound game in the least bit

even an i3 that has hyperthreading does as well as any quad core - so in other words anything higher than a dual core will be able to handle playing the game and multi tasking.

if you want an 8350 than fine, no harm but, the spec'd use(s) do not dictate such.

Please do research and read OP's post before calling eveyone an idiot. Logan from TekSyndicate did a comparison between the 3570k and the 8350 and the 8350 beat it in almost every game.
OP's friend is also going to be streaming WHILE playing the game, so that uses more processing power, meaning you need a better processor then an i3, my 3570k at 4.5 doesn't struggle per-say, but the 8350 will definately do better. Also if he gets into games like BF3 and Crysis 3, he will benefit from the 8350, not to mention its about $30+ cheaper then the 3570k and as powerful as the 3770k.
