The 1866 Plats are pretty hit & miss...the 2133 C9 are pretty decent.

Look here for a little bit of results with the 1866, as well as some of the other models.

http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?281625-New-Corsair-Dominator-Platinums&highlight=Cecil

BTW, there happens to be a set of those 2133s listed for sale over at [H] by OCN member centvalny (also goes by Dumo over at XS). Check your inbox.

The main reason for recommending the 2133s is because they use Samsung HCH9 memory chips which overclock very well.

For what it's worth, if you are not absolutely set on the Dominator Platinum, you can get equally good (or better) memory for significantly less money...

G.Skill Ripjaws Z DDR3 2133 9-11-10-27 kits are excellent, hugely overclockable.
Trident X kits are also phenomenal.
Crucial makes very good memory.
Samsung WondeRAM is great stuff too.

Yeah, I missed the "now" part of your post. Since these are 4GB modules you would need a quad kit, but let me caution you that manufacturers will sometimes change the memory ICs used within a certain product model and even though the default specs may remain the same, mixing ICs can lead to compatibility problems, especially if trying to overclock, as the ICs would in all likelihood have different overclocking capabilities/attributes (for example, response to voltage, or timing changes). Corsair uses version numbers that show as something like "ver4.13" on the module labels to identify the memory IC under the spreaders. If trying to match something down the road, be sure to match the version number, as well as the model number. You are actually better off matching the version number from two different models than the other way around (for example a Dom Plat kit and a Vengeance kit with the same ver4.13 as opposed to two Dom Plat kits, one with v4.13 and the other with v5.12.

Your best bet is to determine how much ram you are really going to need for your intended rig use and get it now in the form of matching kits, or get the minimum you need now and then when it is time to get the rest, sell what you have and buy matching kits at that time. Also, keep in mind that you don't have to buy a "Quad" kit for it to work on an X79, but you do need matching ICs so two dual kits of the same stuff (and ver #) will work just fine. You could always try to find a match for what you end up buying now, but it could turn out to be difficult. With ram prices pretty much on the low side these days I would do my best to get it all now if anyway possible. I personally have noticed an increase in pricing and have read stuff supporting that observation so we may be at the beginning of another uptick in prices. That would be another reason for trying to get it all now.

...and yes, if you aren't hung up on Corsairs, there are lots of other options available which will be much lighter on the wallet. Also the memory overclocking is done via the BIOS, so don't concern yourself with the Intel max clocks for default operations.
