Astro A40 vs Audio Technica AD700

Thread Starter
Hello there.

I want to buy new headphones and i did a little research.
First i wanted to buy the Astro A40 2013 with the Astro Mixamp but after i did a little research i found that a lot of people saying that the Audio Technica AD700 have the best directional sound accuracy.

I Don't care how music sounds with my headphones, i'm a competitive gamer.
I only care about the directional sound accuracy in Counter Strike:Global Offensive.
If someone would response to me who tried both in games that would be great.Especially in Counter Strike.

I have two problems with the Audio Technica AD700:

1: It's the ugliest headphone i can imagine.
2: This headphone don't have a microphone.

There is any way to build a microphone in the Audio Technica AD700?
If yes.
I should go for the Astro Mixamp+ the Audio Technica AD700?Or only buy the AD700 Headphones?

Best Regards.
AXIN

I got some Ultrasone Pro 550s and they have a really good soundstage, similar to the AD700s. And sound great and they're not butt-ugly.

What's your budget? The Sennheiser PC360s could be an option too.

I would get the new Audio Technica AD700X and Antlion Modmic.

Ultrasone headphones are very unnatural sounding, too much bass, quite a bit of caliper pressure, closed back design with cheap pleather.

I completely agree. The Pro 550s are great for the money for the right music and they also are the best closed headphone for gaming at that price point. For pure competitive gaming, the AD700 win hands down. The Pro 550s are basically a Fun headphone with some decent directional queues.

A bit OT but, how do the AD700X compare to the AD700?

I haven't heard the AD700X's but from what I read, they are very similar sonically but with a different look. I believe they have some very minor differences/improvements in the high end. That being said, I would imagine the difference in gaming between the two would be negligible.

They have improved the bass response on the newest version, clean sound and better mids.
