Astro A40 vs Audio Technica AD700 - Page 3

I've got the 2011 Astro A40s + MixAmp and I've got nothing but great things to say about Astro and their quality. I don't have much experience with anything else in terms of headphones or headsets, I know a lot of gamers will recommend the SteelSeries Siberia V2s + Astro Mixamp, but the Astros are by far the highest quality headset I've ever held.

Most headphones or headsets will sound roughly the same, it just comes down to which one you like the most from a price/aesthetics standpoint. I went with the Astros just because the MixAmp is absolutely phenomenal, the sound and build quality of the actual headset are great, and yeah, the price tag for them is a little high, but I think it's worth it.

I'm looking at buying a set of these, thanks for your input.

As for directional sound, compare Creative's CMSS 3D virtual surround to other sound cards (i.e. Dolby Headphone) . You can find plenty of comparison videos online. To me, it sounds a little unnatural, but for directional cues you can't beat it. Which vendor's solution you choose is purely preference.

This is just the name of the virtual surround solution. Dolby headphone is built into certain cards (Asus, Xonar, not sure which others) and CMSS-3D is built into most Creative cards. Just check the features on each card to see which virtual surround solution it has built in.
