This game has far surpassed all of my expectations. It is really annoying that I get occassional crashes, though...anxiously awaiting the next beta driver redface.gif

I'm really enjoying the game. Great blend of action and storytelling. My only gripe is the lack of exploration and Tomb Raiding. They should have called it The Adventures of Lara Croft.

The thing with Tomb Raider is that you have to find the tombs to raid, unlike past iterations where it was set in them. Generally the game is more of a action survival game with some puzzles thrown in for good measure. It does get better as you progress though. Unlocking tier 2 brawler pack makes the combat alot of fun and the exploration/combat scenarios generally last alot longer as the game goes on. You can also free roam around the island via campfires, revisiting areas that were previously inaccessible due to equipment or skills.

There's a fair amount under the surface, you just need to look for it rather than it be fed to you. The puzzles are more there for reward from going off track and exploring, which I think is good. I do think they should have done away with survival instinct though. Just makes the game a bit too easy, though using it is optional.

AND I'm just as confident AMD would have no issue playing the game either, so my god stop arguing as to which is better because as it is now, everything is completely playable - I would just like to see more tressfx, simply because it is pretty biggrin.gif

This for sure. Played last night for a few hours. Ultra settings (which is everything up TressFX off) Vsync on through inspector with adaptive vsync set and prerendered frames set to 3. Also I would definitely say give the in-game FXAA a chance because I did not notice significant blurring at all but at same time I was more interested in actually playing the game. I did crash 1 time during a cut scene, but after reading last night about known issues I was satisfied knowing people are aware and working on it.

Never been a huge fan of Nvidia vs. AMD because in the end it should be all of us as PC Gamers striving to get the best bang for our bucks no matter the setup.

Game is good, give it a shot.

edit: removed joke to stay on topic

Which driver are you using? Task manager shows 30% load across all six cores while playing, so I doubt it's the CPU.

Turn tessellation off from the in game settings, that appears to stop crashing for a ton of people (including myself).

Guys, this game is NOT more demanding than Crysis 3 - Nvidia essentially has ZERO driver optimizations for this game at the moment, and they've also said that Crystal Dynamics will need to patch the game for Nvidia to catch up to the performance of Radeon cards. smile.gif

Since it looks like people missed it:

NVIDIA GPU Performance Issues in the new Tomb Raider
The new Tomb Raider reboot was released last night, and has so far been praised as a good game that brings back that nostalgia of the old Tomb Raider games. However, in our testing today, we have become aware of performance issues on NVIDIA GPUs while playing this game. We reached out to NVIDIA for answers and some information for you if you are experiencing slower than expected performance, it is not just you. We asked NVIDIA what the best driver for the game is right now, and NVIDIA's response is as follows:

Hi Brent. You can try using the latest beta driver however, please note that we are aware of major performance and stability issues with GeForce GPUs running Tomb Raider with maximum settings. Unfortunately, NVIDIA didn't receive final code until this past weekend which substantially decreased stability, image quality and performance over a build we were previously provided. We are working closely with Crystal Dynamics to address and resolve all game issues as quickly as possible. In the meantime, we would like to apologize to GeForce users that are not able to have a great experience playing Tomb Raider, as they have come to expect with all of their favorite PC games.

We then followed up asking about an ETA for the new driver, and got this response:

Hi Brent, this isn't solely a driver issue. The developer needs to make some changes on their end to fix their issues on GeForce GPUs. This will require code changes to the game.

So there you go, it is not only going to take a driver update, but also a patch update for the game to get the most out of NVIDIA GeForce GPUs. I myself am experiencing slow performance, (R.E. 20's FPS) with GTX 680 SLI at maxed out in-game settings, with FXAA. There is definitely a performance issue that needs resolving. The only thing you can do right now, if you are experiencing slow performance, is turn TressFX off, back to Normal, and try lowering in-game setting, starting with SSAO, to try and improve performance. We will have a full evaluation of this game, and its performance and IQ next week with tips on how to get the most out of it performance wise.

Posted by Brent 2:14 PM (CST)

TL;DR Once Nvidia optimizes their drivers in conjunction with a patch for the game, everyone with a GeForce card should have reasonably comparable performance to their Radeon counterparts. Whether Nvidia jumps ahead or is behind in overall performance after the above improvements are made is anyone's guess. Yes, Tomb Taider 2013 is an AMD-backed title, but look at how Crysis 3 turned out....also, this game is in no way more demanding than Crysis 3. thumb.gif
