I wouldn't rule CPU out just yet, I have v-sync with tripple buffering on / no TressFX and 99% of the times I'm locked at 60 FPS, but sometimes I noticed my FPS dipping down to 46~55 while the GPU wasn't at max load, I tabbed out and found this out:

(the fps from MSI OSD went down to 33 when I tabbed out, but it was 48 fps in game), it shows two of my cores at 100% usage - and I'm at 4.5ghz - Even if this game uses 4 or more cores, it's heavily divided in two main threads and even my 3930k is bottlenecking it, my guess is it could be using other threads to lighten the load on the 2 major ones - seems like poor coding to me since even Crysis 3 VHS didn't get any of my cores at 100% load.

Edit: Turning off Tesselation seems to bring the FPS back to 60 and keep the second thread at 85% instead of 99% - Just wanted to know if I could lower cpu usage but turning something off.

Since it looks like people missed it:

TL;DR Once Nvidia optimizes their drivers in conjunction with a patch for the game, everyone with a GeForce card should have reasonably comparable performance to their Radeon counterparts. Whether Nvidia jumps ahead or is behind in overall performance after the above improvements are made is anyone's guess. Yes, Tomb Taider 2013 is an AMD-backed title, but look at how Crysis 3 turned out....also, this game is in no way more demanding than Crysis 3. thumb.gif

This^
The game looks very nice not nearly Crysis 3 "nice" , my 690 @ 2560x1440 is getting slaughtered only after turning TressFX and setting AA to FXAA i can get playable fps (Mostly 60 but dips often) but even than the game is crashing , I'm going to hold off till the new driver and patch is out , don't want to spoil the game.
As for TressFX it looks very nice but it definitely needs work , physics often do not work properly and the performance hit is way too big , that said once they iron it out it will be a great feature and the best thing about it it's NOT PROPRIETARY !
I prefer Nvidia but i really don't like the fact PhysX only work on NV cards , as a feature it's great and i love how awesome Borderlands 2 look with PhysX but if it was open standard we would have much more games using it.

That is not Accurate because it actually is pretending the game is some what playable on my GTX 570 at 1920x1080 resolution but it is not playable at all with TressFX with Tress FX at those Resolutions. I had to dumb down the graphics and play at a lower resolution to finally get TressFX to work and at times in some of the Cut Scenes close to her hair it sometimes gets a little Choppy but the actual gameplay runs great... I do not like this new Hair Feature not becauseI don't like the effects but because of how Demanding it is. I don't know but on that Chart it looks like it pretends my GTX 570 should be able to play with it on when it can't or is that saying its averaging about 20fps with it on, if so then that sounds right since it gets ridiculously choppy and anyhting below 30fps is Choppy right?

My current Setup that I usually play at 1920x1200 resolution on other PC Games:

Amd Phenom II x4 965 3.4ghz
Nvidia GTX 570
4 gigs of ram

Resolution: 1600x1024

Texture Filter: Aniotrophic 1x

Shadows: Normal
Shadow Resolution: High

The game just needs a few patches to optimize and new drivers from AMD/NV. I will randomly get fps drops into the single digits all the time, but I average over 60fps.

Same here. The game will be running at 60fps without a hiccup and then randomly my FPS will just plummet for no reason. I have everything maxed out @ 1440p but even so, this game isn't nearly demanding enough to be giving my rig dips into the 30s. It just needs a good batch of drivers and a patch from the devs cuz it is fairly buggy. In my first playthrough I've gotten wonky tressFX, rivers that glitch through the terrain, and crazy flickering shadows. Nothing game breaking, but noticeable enough to warrant a fix.
I can't max out like the rest of you but i do know there is a huge discussion how AMD and Nvidia needs to work together on Tressfx. I heard and read some articles claiming this game is buggy for Nvidia users and it's intended for AMD users meh..

But at least we'll have a sticky thread to tweak TR for the right performance.

It does impact my FPS running everything enabled. I had to switch back to Normal hair and SSAO off and set Level Detail Ultra or High i can't remember.

I like SSAO but i would had liked it if they added HBAO biggrin.gif

So it is the hair what rapes the fps? well .. at least that one is better than the ropes.
