Looking to upgrade from 560 Ti

Thread Starter
As the title says, I'm looking to upgrade from my Galaxy 560 Ti as an early b'day present for myself. smile.gif (march 20)

Was thinking about it for a while then the new tomb raider came along and tore my card a new one. haha (with max settings and tressfx on that is)

So I've been tossing up between the 7950 or 7970, would like to keep it under $400 if i can so from everything I've read the 7950 is pretty good bang for buck.

Was thinking of getting this one in particular.. http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=22255

Picked that one because 1, it has a backplate and im sick of seeing my vid card start warping and 2, its already OC'd a bit and has pretty decent looking cooling. and 7970 is about $100 dearer for, what i can see is not much more.

1920x1080 res games run at, also running a 2nd monitor at the same res if that makes and difference.

Yea our prices suck over here in aus. frown.gif

Thoughts? Other options?

I was just in a similar boat, upgrading my GTX 470 to a 7970. I went with the Gigabyte Windforce 7970 since it's only $400 right now.

Yeah decent price there, but only one dvi doesn't really work for me plus not a huge fan of reference style cooling, usually sound like a freakin jet. haha

No idea what their rep is like here in aus, probably much the same as the states i guess.

You know, I considered the same purchase. It's just up to you whether or not you want to put in the work overclocking it. I figured that the $60 to move up was worthwhile, but if you disagree, then that card is most likely your best upgrade bet.

OP asus and gigabyte cards are voltage locked. go with sapphire hd 7950 boost or PCS+ HD 7950 boost

http://www.mwave.com.au/product/sku-ab47939-powercolor_radeon_hd7950_pcs_3gb_boost_video_card

both cards have good custom coolers. unlocked voltage. pick what you like.

Nevermind I was wrong, 2.0 and 2.1 are locked, and the chances of getting the unlocked 1.0 one are low. With that said, some people have had success with a BIOS modification.
