I am looking for the device i.d. of both cards as shown in gpu-z as they must
have the same device i.d. they can have a different bios and clock speed & they
must also have the same amount of v-ram.

Absolutely. Here it is:

**EDIT** That is the side-by-side GPU-Z of each card. In case anyone was confused and didn't read this post's quote.

your cards do not have the same amount of v-ram, therefore they will not sli.
your gpu-z pic showed 1 card with 2048 of v-ram and card 2 with 4096

I could be mistaken but I thought I read that this will not work for the 600 series cards.
it's worth a shot though, or just return the newest card he just bought and exchange for
another with the same amount of v-ram

Might sound random, but when I installed an SLI config for a friend I had a similar problem and what I did to solve it was pull the cards out and switch the PCIE slots you put them in. Simple weird solution but nothing I tried worked until I did that. It's worth a shot.
