This is true but sadly there isn't a single gpu that's available that will max out today's games. Hell both Crysis 3 and FarCry3 give a single Titan fits in only 1080p. We have games coming in the next few month's that will be even more demanding. The days of a single gpu being enough are long gone. Inb4 someone claims to be maxing out all their games with a single gtx670.

The only one of those that doesn't scale well is Crysis 2.

Sure it isn't 100% scaling, but anything above 70% per card, isn't bad.

You need a really high resolution for proper scaling with 3-way and 4-way setups. This is why people usually say that the scaling is poor, even among ultra high end GPU setup owners the amount of people with monitor setups anything like vega's is slim.

I'll just add my 2 cents here...

I have a Tri-Fire 6970 rig right now, on an ASRock Extreme7 Gen3 motherboard. I've been planning to upgrade to a single PCI 3.0 card at some point as my motherboard has a single PCI 3.0 slot. For my 6970 Tri-Fire setup the motherboard sports an NF200 chip for the PCI 2.0 16/8/8 configuration , but bypasses the NF200 chip when a single card is used. Nice board, I'll upgrade it when the Haswell CPUs come out.

Anyway, looks like I'm waiting for next gen 7990 after all's said and done. I expect it will be the best single card option to drive my 5760 x 1200 Eyefinity Array at the moment. The Tri-Fire 6970's do a nice job of driving this Eyefinity as is, and thinking the dual 7970 GPU card will at least match 3 x 6970. Then when I get a Haswell motherboard/CPU I'll throw a 7970 in the mix and Tri-Fire again smile.gif

So to summarize, for some of us that have a single PCI 3.0 slot until the next time we upgrade our motherboards, I'll cast the "single PCI 3.0 slot vote" for the king of cards: all hail the 7990!!! grouphug.gif

The Titan does get honorable mention, perhaps it'll come out with a dual GPU version soon tongue.gif

I wonder if my Antec HCP 1200 power supply is enough for Tri-Fire 7990 & 7970 LOL thumb.gif

I want a Titan card but a 7990 will beat it in performance and compute.

The only issue is CF drivers. AMD dual gpu's tends to under perform at launch, needing driver tweaks for the first few months to get things right.
So I'm right back with the Titan. More driver stable and no performance loss due to SLI/CF issues. I'm have SLI issues right now in Crysis 3.

Perhaps why they are delaying? Proper 7990 drivers could improve performance by up to 10-15%. But I'm guessing there's more to this:
The fact they didn't officially announce it yet though there are "7990's". The fact it has a completely different code name. The fact that they have delayed it and the fact that its been over a year since the 7 series was launched has me thinking they've got something up their sleeve?

The Nvidia Ceo and Isoroku Yamamoto have something in common, they both thought "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve."

If this dual 7970 gpu card is priced at 700-750 ill scoope up 2 on release date

I wouldn't expect such a low price-it would herald problems for the custom 7990s already in existence.

good point there. my guess is 899$ base price.

The 7970 has been out way, way too long for it to have taken AMD this long to come up with an even vaguely release-ready 7990. I know Nvidia and the gaming industry isn't putting a huge amount of pressure on them, but still. Get on with it already.

You guys realize they are more than likely waiting to fix the drivers frame time issues, right? If AMD Is going to respond to Titan, the last thing they want is to release a card and have everyone go "well there are no recent non-beta drivers, so we used the last WHQL version, and the frame times were absolutely horrible even though the FPS was higher".

They are probably learning from their mistake of 7970 release when they rushed the driver team to cobble together a half baked driver. Everyone ran benchmarks on poor performing rushed drivers and then for the next 6 months google results were GTX 680 with good drivers vs broken release candidate drivers on 7970.

I have a lot of leniency for driver issues and I normally find AMD drivers to be decent, but the 7970 release drivers were awful.
