Where is your performance increase needed? if you specifically have a need for it for a certain purpose or game that you're not getting the performance needed/wanted and you've seen benchmarks or have other indicators that the 670 would definitely solve that gap then go for it..you could sell the 7850 to offset the cost a pretty good bit anyway..more than 1/3 of the cost would be offset. If there's no immediate and/or specific performance needs that arent being met, I'd wait a while and see what the prices do. Otherwise, I'm sure you could a quick buyer for the 7850 like myself for instance, lol. gl

No, this is what I meant:

When I was thinking about the fact that people are saying a 7970 is better than a GTX 680 for some things, I began thinking that maybe a GTX 670 could be (or might be) a downgrade from the 7850.  However, now I understand where I went wrong in my logic:  it's the 7950 that would be better than the GTX 670, not the 7850.  I'm not saying that the 7950 is better than the GTX 670;  I'm just saying that when I said "7850", I think that I was thinking of the 7950.

So, I was using fail logic like this:  if the 7970 is better than the GTX 680, then the 7850 must be better than the GTX 670.  I was completely forgetting about the gap between the 7970 and 7850.

Again though:  I'm not making any statements about the video cards and how I think they might compare to each other (keyword:  "might").  I'm just explaining what I said.

I think that this is a no-brainer:  you can usually get the 7970 for the same price as the GTX 670.

I reworded it so that it can possibly be clearer:

All this people suggesting AMD cards, please read the OP, because i never mentioned anywhere i wanted another AMD card, or that one was available to me.

The shop with the 670 is a second hand shop and will offer me £110 for my 7850, thats why i was asking about a 670 specifically, not 'which card would be an upgrade'.

You also didn't say that other cards weren't available to you.  I was merely hoping that you just had your heart set on the GTX 670.

However, if you can be without a video card  for a little while, then you can get a 7970 for £300.
