I was actually looking into a GTX Titan as an upgrade from my 2 580's also until I saw the benchmarks...

We have almost the same setup...
i7 970 @ 4Ghz and I have 2x GTX 580 (1.5GB) SLI...

Each of my GPU's are running at 800Mhz and I can get a solid 62FPS on the Valley benchmark... With a GTX Titan, from the benchmarks (w/ 3770k @ 4.5ghz) it was 65FPS @ 1080p

It will barely be an upgrade; not much performance gain, 1 card for less microstutter /'I don't experience any', and much less power draw if that matters),
2x Titans will be the way to get the FPS upgrade, but that is such a steep cost that I wouldn't recommend upgrading. I would recommend a 120hz monitor... and wait for Maxwell when the GTX cards are actually at a sane price... thumb.gif

Youre obviously dead set on buying titan and whatever we say isn't going to change that.

YES and TRI kicks the crap out of it. What drivers are you using?

As some one who has actually done this I think I'm slightly more qualified than the 'guesstimators' going off of benches.wink.gif I just changed from SLI 1.5GB 580's flashed to 850mhz to a single Titan which boosts at stock to 1045. In every title I've tossed at it, it handily beats the 580's. Particularly in min frame rates. The comparative smoothness is nearly amazing compared to SLI. Crysis 3 was essentially unplayable at VH settings in spots even using FXAA at 1920x1080. Now it's perfectly capable of VH running 4x MSAA and even 8x MSAA if you can deal with occasional dips in the 40 FPS range. I'm also running a EVGA 758 board with a 980x clocked to 4.3 and my bench scores are nearly identical with those running SB or IB setups. Whether or not it is worth the cost is up to the OP. That's my .02¢.

I'm a fan boy?? lol Coming from a quadfire person? Come on man biggrin.gif If you reread my post I said in REAL world applications i.e. games.... you have quads, so I know you know exactly what I'm talking about. Quad anything be it SLI or crossfire is just not worth anything in real world gaming scenarios except for a hand full of games (tri anything also, it just so happens to work in more games than quad). They just doesn't have the support that two cards does. Not to mention the gains especially after three cards is minimal in gaming (micro stutter, especially with card with higher frame latencies). I know that for a fact, I've had quad SLI and crossfire. Especially on a 1366 platform (which have run both on).

In benchmarking its another story but that isn't gaming is it? Crossfire or SLI would be the OP's best bet bang for buck. So two cards (79xx or 670 or 680) would be the best bang for buck is he sold the 580's. I was simply pointing out that the titan (while retardedly expensive) is the best single card and TWO card solution IF used in surround or high resolutions especially... every time Titan comes up in any thread people are called fan boys. Sheesh.... if you know what it is for and who it is aimed at (not the people who get it just for epeen) it is a good card. If you added a second and then even a third card in the future it stacks up pretty well (given used card prices down the road) with the bandwidth to use all 6 Gb of VRAM and the horsepower to actually use it unlike its 6xx series brethren. thumb.gif

On another note, at least the 79xx cards have 3 GB of VRAM and the bandwidth to use it where as my 670 4gb cards do no have the bandwidth to really utilize the extra VRAM effectively...

With how Crysis 3 runs in surround @ 5970x1080 on three 480's @ 900/2200 with everything 95% maxed (no AA) two 580's should be more than enough for maxing 1080p on a single screen biggrin.gif. Its your money, and two 580s, 670's, 7950's, 7970's, or a titan will all do whatever you want them to do biggrin.gifthumb.gif

**** edit ****

Even two 480's overclocked can max Crysis 3 and Farcry 3 biggrin.gif I just tested Crysis 3 with two 480's (maxed except AA was set to MSAA Low (2x))
