This is what happens when you buy a used Fermi over eBay

Thread Starter
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I submit the following:

I purchased a Palit GTX 480 from eBay for a certain sum of money. I knew full well of the 480's monstrous appetite for power and heat output. I connected everything and fired up OCCT....

...and hit 100C load temps in about 30 seconds with the fan at 100%.

Now, I know Fermi's are hot....

Pictured: Fermi's other uses

But seriously, that's just not acceptable. So I took it apart and found something.... something awful....

Pictured: Something Awful

Needless to say, after removing THIS.....

This creature has been seen running around my room, plotting to destroy me, and being generally evil

My temps are back to normal. 77C load with the stock cooler on a 480 with bad case ventilation? Not bad....

All pictures taken with my Nokia Lumia 920

Why do you run OCCT as a stress test... that's like dropping a 100lb weight on someone's chest while they're asleep... NO. It's not realistic.

Agreed. He probably sold it thinking it was too hot anymore and about to die. Fear not! I have given him more life. Alan Wake and folding at good temps. smile.gif

Thanks for your input. I'm aware that OCCT isn't realistic but I had no games and use the card for GPU-accelerated rendering. I wanted to measure the load temps quickly, and only ran it at stock volts and clocks for 30 seconds or so.

At first I thought the heatsink was removed and replaced with foam. I was a little disgusted when I found out it was clumps of dust...

I liked the temps are too damn high, very good you got them under control, 70s is pretty good considering it's max safe.
