A few questions for those who own Tomb Raider running a 79xx GPU

I recently learned the hard way that games need to be researched before purchasing, just because a game says AMD Evolved doesn't mean it won't run like crap (Saints Row 3, Far Cry 3).

I want to find out from you guys how Tomb Raider performs with Vysnc ON (60 Hz) without TressFx and maybe 2xAA on a 79xx (I own a 7970). will it lock at 60 or dip into the low 50's causing massive stuttering? Is it a smooth experience?

Also, what about no AA?

I'm not speaking as an "average" gamer, I'm very observant and even the slightest stuttering annoys the hell out of me.

I really want to buy this game, but don't want another Far Cry 3 experience.

Please don't refer me to any pre done benching charts. I want honest testimonies from those with first hand real world experience.

Well I have my 7950 OCed to 7970 performance and it is smooth if I use FXAA, but if I use 2xSSAA then it has some slowdowns. The game needs some patching+driver tweaks before it's really optimal for playing. I would say wait a month and then buy it.

It runs awesome? No, seriously it does. Out of the box, I get full scaling out of my quads and its like butter. Butter on some hot grilled corn!

Sorry for going off topic, but what is this Far Cry 3 madness you speak of? I haven't been in the PC gaming realm for the last 4 months and will be returning soon with a 7970 Ghz and am REALLY looking forward to playing Far Cry 3 at max settings at 1080p with 60+ fps... so please elaborate.

EDIT: I'm reading that the 7970 to achieve high frame rates the game has to be played at "High" instead of "Ultra" which still isn't a deal breaker for me. I'm sure the game still looks stellar either way. And I'm hoping this is what you are referring to and not something worse such as stuttering/crashing/ etc....

Eh, just skip the far cry hype and go straight to tomb raider. Far cry it's horribly coded for amd. However it has gotten a lot better in recent patches, only a lil stutter but still with awful scaling.

I have been playing it on a 7970 @ 1200/1700 with single monitor 1080p. Using the ultimate setting including TessFX, VSync and FXAA enabled. Runs great, mostly fixed at 60 fps, but with occasional drops to mid 50s.

Feels very smooth so far, but I'm only about 1 hour into it. Saving it for the weekend.

I do have 3x1080p monitors, but I haven't yet attempted to find a good eyefinity setting with my single card.

Hi tsm, omg you're automatically disqualified from any "How does [insert game here] run" Threads because you have 4 golden cards! tongue.gif You don't know the meaning of a slow down biggrin.gif

I guess I will wait for the next official driver before I buy.

I'm really OCD about have my fps locked at 60, I think I'll be able to tolerate High settings, but I still want some kind of AA

+rep, this is what I don't want, the occasional dips down in the 50's...do me a favor? see what it's like without TressFX and report back pretty please

Is it capped @ 60? is there no way to unlock it? and OP Im sure with driver updates/ and a patch that 50 dip will disappear. The game just came out after all.
