Your best choice would be the FX-6300 route, go for it!

By the way, I'm looking to buy my first car as well and I was looking at a few BMW's used, could you tell me exactly what model you bought so I don't blow $30k on a piece of crap? tongue.gif

Thanks StayFrosty, yeah I'm going with the 6300. Plus, I can sell the GX280 desktop (for whatever reason people still buy them like crazy) and 650Ti card on eBay to get a better graphics card with that money. smile.gif

And lol! I bought a 2001 325xi sedan, which is part of their defunct "E46" line of cars. I knew next to nothing about BMW's so I wanted to get a cheap used one for starters, instead of blowing $40k+ on new model. I've always bought new cars before, so this was virgin territory for myself.

I did the typical homework (AutoCheck report, saw all maintenance records, etc.) before buying. The thing is, you can fill your brain with as much info as possible but you'll never truly know how the previous owner actually drove the car. That's the main unknown factor when buying used.

I spent more than 2 hours driving around with the owner, so it's not like he was rushing me, but I should have had a pre-purchase inspection done. I talked him down to only $3,500 so it's not like I blew a lot of cash and totally regret the buy but all the money I spent fixing it pretty much equaled the usual selling price for this particular model that's in perfect working condition.

I expected issues because it was used, but not for everything to hit so quickly. biggrin.gif Now, I can't say all the little surprises that popped-up made me lean away from any future BMW purchases because this is an older used car, but it doesn't exactly make me want to run out and buy another one right away.

Very impressed with the FX-6300 so far. smile.gif I couldn't get the Kingston Hyper T1 2000MHz ram to run at stock speeds and now I remember why I had it buried in my closet.....I could never get that set to run at the specified timings no matter what setup I was using. So, off to sell those and pick up some G.Skill 1866MHz memory instead.

What he bought is better than Phenom II , for his uses.

AM3+ will be here for next gen of AMD stuff; FX-6300 has some resale value if he bought at Microcenter.

Plus It's a lot easier to sell stuff if you're the first owner.

Oh wow, you must be dying in that Focus. Once you get a taste of a car that has beefy h.p., it's always hard to drop down to a regular passenger car. My previous car was a 350z but sold her to get something more "mature" because I'm old now. redface.gif

You're 20, so by "insurance premiums" that translates into you getting speeding tickets which raised your rates yes? biggrin.gif:D Just kidding. You might get more hp out of the Focus if you just pushed it from the back. smile.gif

Did you have any of the obligatory problems with your E46 325ci (valve cover gasket leak, oil filter housing gasket leak, amongst about a dozen or so other issues)?
