GPU raises 15 degrees from a fan?

Thread Starter
I just put in another fan on the bottom of my rig (blowing up, towards the GPU). Now my GPU is 63 degrees C, it's friggin hot. How is this possible?! Should I turn off my pc and take the fan out? I had to splice a bloody wire to do it -.-

It is possible if the fan is blowing on the blades of your GPU's fan causing them to slow down thus causing the GPU to heat up.

It happens to me too when I turn my side panel fan on full blast. All of a sudden my NB fan drops a few hundred RPMs due to the hurricane of incoming air. Try not to point it directly at the GPU or maybe lower the fan's speed a little.

I moved the fan around so it's barely even touching the GPU, and still it's sitting at 58-60 degrees. What's happening to my GPU

Couple things:
Have you ambient/room temps changed since adding that fan?
Can you explain what "splice" you did?
Have you monitored your fan speeds from before & after you added the fan? If so, have they decreased?

I may have just found the problem. ATI Tray Tools didn't open and my fan speeds were going at 25%. I usually have them at 90-100.

Dropped 8 degrees in about 30 seconds so far, going to keep them going for a bit and maybe take my 80cm fan for a little bit.

What's the maximum temp that X1600s can take? Like the X19xxs can run at in the 90s without a problem (even though usually not that high). I recommend you move the fan. I would say to put it to one of the sides. Either on the horizontal long side or the back but not under it.

I have two on the back and one in the front, then one on the side. This was one of the only places it would fit. I did find the problem, I'm back down to averaging 45.
