Seagate Sucks.

Ok i dont want to sound like a crazy angry person, i have had nothing but bad experience with seagate hdd's, also the after sales service sucks to the core in INDIA.
Earlier my warranty was denied on my external hdd because the case had alot of scratches. Tried explaining to them but they just wouldnt listen. Now, my another hdd failed, i also posted about the same a few days ago. I had problem registering for creating an RMA on seagate's website, actually a company called accel frontline handles the RMA process in India. I tried creating many accounts but just couldnt register on the stupid website, each time it threw random errors. So i decided to RMA through seagate's website.
I was half way though register process and came across shipping address thing, i couldnt get the shipping address of mumbai, instead it showed shipping address of chennai. Anyway i just went ahead with it, and then my order was placed. During registration it didnt mention anything about :-
1. Paying for the courier service.
2.Getting only refurbished hdd's. They will be giving only facotry repaired hdd's and not new ones.
3.I couldnt change my shipping address, i mistyped name of my building. Now i cant change it. Also didnt get the email regarding the same.

None of the numbers of accel frontline work. The ones that are given are of svc and arent for answering questions regarding RMA service. They answer only if you have already applied for an Rma and wish to know the status of the hdd/shipping. mad.gif
Also any idea how i can correct the mistake i made in shipping address option.

P.S- I know this thread is too long, am very sorry for it. Just sharing my experience on the crappy service thats being provided by seagate in INDIA since 2 years(AFAIK)
Nothing has changed in 2 years.

We know they suck, This is why the majority of OCN goes with Samsung and Western Digital.

Seagate died long ago with the Customer Service and those shoddy Barracuda HDD's

Seagate bought Samsung's HDD divisions so WD is the only option.

I cant find a way to cancel my RMA. i dont know if the websites too complicated or if its me who cant seem to understand it(yeah staying awake whole night and missing on sleep doesnt seem like a nice idea right now)
Any help regarding cancelling the RMA please. Right now i prefer to travel 35Kms just to submit the hdd and waste 4 hours of my life over sending the hdd via courier 600kms away. Also its really tough getting packaging material over here. wink.gif

And Samsung's HDD division is totally not a part of Seagate now .... rolleyes.gif

Their current HDD's are actually pretty darn good in terms of performance, noise and price. Much better than this noisy WD black I'm running now (which was also more expensive).

@ OP: Yes, I agree that that is poor CS but really, Seagate is far from an isolated case in this regard.

Well after sales in India is extremely poor and pathetic in India. This is by far the worst i have seen till date. On the other hand Samsung's svc was the best. Though i had to wait for 30 days but they paid me the bill amount of the phone since some parts were not available at that time. That happened after using the phone for 11 months! smile.gif

Every hard drive manufacturer has had some sort of quality issue.

That being said, I have had nothing but good luck with Seagate. My desktop has 2 750GB drives in it (at least 4 years old), as well as a 320GB laptop drive (3 years old). I have a NAS with 4 2TB (5400RPM) drives in RAID 5 (2 years old), another NAS with 2 1TB 7200RPM drives (3 or 4 years old), and a 500GB laptop drive in my PS3 (maybe 1 year old). I also have 4 external USB drives (5 year old 320GB drive, 4 year old 1TB drive, 3 year old 1.5TB drive, and 2 half-year old 3TB drives). Literally the only drive I have ever had fail was the 1.5TB USB drive, and that's because I tripped over the cord and it boned the tile floor.

I also have a few Hitachi and WD drives, but mostly Seagate. I understand that all hard drives fail eventually and that I have been ridiculously lucky to avoid any failures so far, but I don't believe that Seagate is really THAT bad.

Also, their RMA process was really easy for me with that USB drive. Finally, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't ALL hard drive manufacturers give refurbished drives for RMAs?

I personally think ALL mechanical hard drive's suck.

When I buy one, doesn't matter what brand or what size, I go into that purchase under the assumption that the device will only last for about one year (if that) anymore. I am not joking, either. Yes there are a HUGE number of ppl who's drive's will work for years and years. But there is also a HUGE number of ppl who's drives will crap out within the first year. Seagate and WD are among the worst offenders as their the manufacturer's who's drives sell the most.

This is just my experience. None of this is written in stone or anything. But it's how I look at the current reliability of ANY mechanical drive from ANY manufacturer these days.

1 yr of service if I'm lucky. Anything else is very lucky. (for me, anyways)

I have had nothing but bad luck. Maybe it has got something to do with 7200.11 series hdd which earlier had a serious problem. There was a firmware for fixing that but you cant flash a firmware on external drive. I checked my external hdd was of same series, I opened the casing after the warranty was denied. Also, seagate doesnt keep a check on quality of after sales service offered in India. They should atleast take some steps for improving the quality of their service, its been bad for several years now. You know we have to wait long ques for just giving our drives back for RMA. I remember, last time i went i sat nearly for 2 hours. Also the website is so buggy you cant even register your hdd for RMA(see accel frontline website and you will understand what i am trying to say)
I liked samsung hdd's though, i will be buying wd this time. This is the second time i lost a TB of data. frown.gif Bad Luck i guess.
