i5-3570 or wait for Haswell?

Thread Starter
Hiya,

I was about to get an i5-3570K and overclock it and then saw that the next gen chips are out in June, so now I am undecided as to whether to do it now or wait?

I mainly use my PC for office work Outlook, Firefox, Acronis True Image, sometimes a bit of VMWare. I do not play games at all so graphics are irrelevant to me, I just want a fast machine as currently my o/c E6750 goes at a crawl when I use Acronis.

Is it safer to go for a 3570 as the motherboards are more mature and more likely to be more reliable?

Wait or go for it?

Thanks

Well we can only speculate on the performance improvement for Haswell right now. It seems to me the improvements will be small, but then again I am speculating from what I have been reading.

If you need the upgrade now, I would just go ahead and get the 3570k. It is such a vast improvement over your current rig you may not even bother overclocking!
Or you could wait for Haswell and compare the 3570k performance to the Haswell. I'm would assume the 3570k price would drop after Haswell releases also.

We generally recommend the 3570k to gamers , if you're doing some computer work that requires hyperthreading then the i7-3770k is the way to go , or you could search for a used i7-2700k thumb.gif

At this stage, and if it isn't needed right now, I'd personally wait for Haswell.

I dont really need it right now but I WANT it right now!!!! haha

I looked at the i7's but ruled them out due to cost as I'm on a bit of a budget for this upgrade

I was also thinking that the 3570 might drop in price after Haswell is released as well

Arrrhhhhhh decisions decisions

If you fill out your computer's specs in your signature, we can make recommendations to get it running speedier. Windows 8 and an SSD will make just about any machine absolutely FLY. thumb.gif

Intel doesn't work that way. The 2500K didn't drop when the 3570K came along, and the 3570K won't drop when the 4670K comes out.

If you can use it now, and you want it now - do it! IMO it's not worth waiting on the next gen until it's right around the corner.

I'd just get the 3570k. Even I lost the waiting game, lol.

...and I'm glad I bought mine early too.
