Multi GPU question

Thread Starter
Hi everyone,

Im currently using a single 7950 and thinking to buy another one but Im not sure about it. the thing is my card is worth £250 and that would be total of 500 spent on the graphics and I know in some games it even performs worse redface.gif so shall I stick with my single card for a while and sell it in a few months maybe for getting another superior single card or go ahead and crossfire it ? even if I sell it now for 200 pounds, with 450 pounds I can get something really good.. hard choice .. need opinions.

Thanks!

imo, your only upgrade path is crossfire or titan. but if you are only using 1080 it would be a waste unless you want to max out c3, then crossfire.

more cash! more mhz! oc both cpu and gpu moar!

Your card is really good as it is, I have two and they work awesome in all the games Ive played so far. On a single screen two 7950's is about the same as a titan for way less money.

I would say grab another if you need more performance, usually there is only driver issues with games at release. And even then I have never had major issues.

multi GPU is not going to be as consistent as single GPU. you can stick with the HD 7950 till Q4 2013 and pick up a next gen HD 8000 series card. other than Titan no other single GPU is a significant upgrade for you. pricing on Titan is crazy now. but you can expect when the HD 8000 series comes there will be competition and price cuts on Titan. also if you are at 1080p resolution you can definitely play all games except crysis 3 maxed out. for crysis 3 run with SMAA 2x. you have the HIS HD 7950 iceq. nice cooler. you can easily get the gpu to run at 1150 mhz with voltage tweaking.

Sell it and get a GTX 680. It's a beast card that would handle anything you throw at it at max settings, and it would be in your price range ($450USD = 300 pounds). In fact, you'd be saving money. Then, on down the road, should you ever need it you can SLI. From what I understand microstutter happens less frequently in an SLI setup vs crossfire. That's just my two cents smile.gif

i doubt your 680 can beat my 7950 by much. you want to try a few benchmarks?

What games are you currently playing? If you feel like you need more performance, I would xfire. When the 8000 series cards release, sell both 7950's.

the 2 demanding games i play rightnow are bf3 mp and c2. i can max both out with my gpu at stock but my chip oc'ed to 4.5GHz. can you oc your cpu moar?

in metro, i have to oc my gpu to 1100/1575 for a smooth game play. 1100/1575 should be a piece of cake on any 7950. with a little bump in voltage. at those oc, it can match a stock 7970. i never use kombuster, instead i use 3DMarks and heaven 3 and 4 to check gpu oc.

forget kombustor or furmark. run normal benchmarks like heaven 4.0 or 3d mark 2013. if you have a HD 7950 OC or HD 7950 boost then 1.1 ghz is a fairly easy overclock to achieve even at stock voltage. after it runs benchmarks stable run games like bf3, farcry 3 and confirm if your overclock is stable.
