Overclock

Hi, I have a list of specs here and I was wondering if it's safe (PSU Wise) to overclock my GPU.

This is my PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817153165

My other specs are:

Gigabyte am3+ 870 UD3 Rev 2.2 Motherboard

Phenom II x4 805 2.5ghz 4mb l3 cache OCed to 3.5ghz and 6mb l3 cache (2mb cache unlocked)

2x4GB Corsair ram + 2x2gb Samsung ram

Galaxy Nvidia Geforce 460 GTX

I have a few questions.. First, how much more than 166 watts would an max overclocked GTX 460 require? 2nd, would my cpu work faster without the extra 2mb of unlocked L3 cache? After all, L3 cache does have more latency than other cache... Third, do you guys recommend I get a more capable PSU? I don't intend to upgrade my gpu or cpu unless I buy a new MB+cpu, and chances are I will buy a new psu when I do anyway.

Well do you have a CPU cooler? That's a bigger worry than PSU. To answer your question yes. I have the same PSU as you and I have OCed my CPU to 3.6 but I put it down to 3.2 because there is no need for 3.6 IMO.

Yes I have a cooler lol, I have been using this computer for awhile but I never really took the time to OC the GPU, but OCing it makes a difference in my games. My HSF is a Cooler Master Hyper N520 or http://www.coolermaster.com/product.php?product_id=5983

My worry is if I will max/overtake my maximum 12volt rail wattage. I run 2 Hdds + 1 DVDRW (one is a WD green sata) I also run 5 120mm Case fans + 2 92 MM stock Cooler master fans on the HS., My GPU also has a 80mm fan on it. My CPU never breaks 57 C on blend P95.

I'm stupid please disregard the last post -.- how embarrassing i though you where taking about CPU over clocking but you meant GPU overclocking haha well anyways, you should be able to over clock the GPU without any problems

Alright thanks, I'm only gonna OC the gpu when playing games though. When I push my GPU OC, games become smoother, but shouldn't they already be very smooth before hand with my gpu? :/?

Are the games choppy? What kind of FPS are you getting?

Not choppy at all, On this one game I play the fps goes from 90~200 in certain areas, OCing It doesn't make my max fps increase that much, but it definitely makes my lows higher, and that might be why it appear smoother.

Oh okay well I see now. I would keep
It OCed 24/7 if the heat is good your PSU can Handel it.
