[DO] EA Refusing Refunds Over Simcity. - Page 30

Seriously whats so hard to comprehend that if I bought a product and it doesn't work as advertised, that I have every right to request and receive a refund. It works in food, automobiles, toys, etc...but with EA it's the consumers fault?

I guess you've never bought a car from an auction or bought anything sold as is. Good luck getting a refund on that house you just took out a $300,000 mortgage for.

Fail.

SimCity isn't being sold "as is." It is also governed under totally different laws than auctioned goods.

Also, if you buy a house and there is a major structural issue that the sellers didn't disclose, then, you legally can get your money back, or the sellers are responsible for repairs. thumb.gif

My family works in real estate and real estate law, come at me.

You won't get a refund on a car unless it is horribly messed up when new, I think everyone knows that. But we're talking about a videogame.

I can't believe some of you guys are actually sitting in front of your computers and blaming the consumer for thinking a game would work when its advertised to work. Worst off some of you are saying answers like "Don't buy pre-ordered next time." Really? It's the consumer fault for thinking a product is going to work off the jump when its advertised as such? Some people knew about the DRM, but that doesn't change the fact that even with DRM, the server should be able to handle the expected # of people. Server outages happen all the time, but when its this many people who can't have access to the game, then it has nothing to do with the consumer.

It surprises me that in a place where the insides of a computer is discussed on a level the average person knows nothing about, such stupid ass things are being said.

Except that practically every game on the market is sold as is to begin with, especially digital download games. It's nothing new. Valve will honor you one single refund in the lifetime of your account. Try taking any PC game over to Gamestop after you've opened it and used the key wink.gif Sim City is not the first game in history that has a high server load and issues at launch, yet the community has blown it ridiculously out of proportion.

Another casualty of companies taking the Mobile Model to things that do not need it. But they see $$ and the always-on-network lends itself perfectly as a trusted pathway into your continually Open Wallet for DLC's, Coins, Gems etc.

So this is just the beginning. They will implement it and blame Piracy as the sole reason but that's an extremely shallow view. Get out of the kiddie pool. "Always follow the Money" And note that refunds are not in their model at all for Digital. rolleyes.gif

"My boycott of EA starts now"...ten minutes later "Oh look Steam has this killer new game," /clicks Download...

What sucks is that if you are on PC, or any new Console in the future, what new Quality Titles will not have always on connected DRM? We can all say "I'm not buying it", but obviously will any mass of people agree to just miss out? Sell our Souls the alternative... That I don't have the answer to and that's why this small bump in the road is not keeping EA's CEO up at night. He/She knows the masses have no answer...

The other side of this coin is that if Piracy wasn't so rampant on the previous ten+ years mass of games, would this have been the given solution as Always Online DRM. Food for thought for those shaking their fists at EA while a stack of Pirated games on DVD sit on your PC desk.

I'm on the outside looking in on this one. I pay for all my games, although I think it sucks when in the middle of a game your network resets and you get kicked out of the game. However I hope to one day be a game developer and Piracy makes me questioning the effort...

So the same holds true when people bought Crysis 3 for their pc and it can't run because that pc is a old celeron with integrated graphics? Should they get a refund? They definitely won't once it 's opened, sorry.

They are excused because they are not computer savvy? Not how the world works my friend. You've got to do your research sometimes. Just like those with crappy / spotty internet connections complaining that an always online game keeps dropping (not even talking about sim city 5 here, just mmo's / online based games)

Anyways! No one forced anyone to buy the game. I learned from the past that big titles, mixed with always online are going to have major issues at launch. I want this game as much as the next guy but learning from the past clearly saved me money and headaches here. At the same time I get a good laugh at the overreactions of people who are so anti-drm, so anti-ea, so anti-always online, then went ahead and bought the game, therefore supporting those practices thumb.gif

When MOH warfighter came out, and it didn't work, i contacted EA . They tried to blame it on hardware and software and quikly told them thats not the problem. I flat out told them the game was broken and demanded a refund.. That was EA chat. I then called and told them the game was defective and demanded a refund. They gave me 2 options. One, I could send the game back and they would send me a new unopened one back to return to the store. Oe I could get a free download game from origin. They sugested Mass effect 3 with the works. But that game sucks almost as much as MOH did. At the end I won't by a game from EA unless I can play a beta or demo.
