(Sound familiar?) Yes, EA, like any company, requires a constant reliable connection for you to play an online game -____- That's automatically implied. The issue at hand isn't even DRM, which is what makes me want to gauge my eyes out reading the posts around here. Your active DRM check is done when you log into Origin, which is working just fine. The ONLINE portion of the game (which is essentially the entire game) is what's having some technical issues right now due to high server traffic. They've nearly double the number of available servers and are getting things on track.

thumb.gif This is why I'm not crucifying anyone just yet. EA has stated they're working on the problems, and have fixed a few of them while increasing capacity and amount of servers. They are attempting to fix the problem, which is what they should be doing. If the servers can't be fixed, then refunds would be an obvious, but as of now, they are already better than they were a few days ago and only getting better.

lol, you completely missed the point of the article...

EA Initially offered refunds because CSRs were not told otherwise. That is why people on reddit reported receiving a refund on Mar 5 and 6. A few days later management stepped in and said "Do not give out refunds. Refer customers to our policy." They also modified the twitter post on March 5 to one that states "NO REFUNDS ON DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION." The article was saying how EA changed from offering refunds at first, to not offering refunds.

Current stance: EA does not offer refunds, is working on fixing any issues, has fixed 80% of the problems, and EA has offered a free game to customers.

Im going to go ahead and tell you whats happened EVERY time EA games decides its going to be good-guy-EA and "give" people what belongs to them.

Basically, someone who had the time, money and free-time to sue them for their money back has come along. Because of precedence (think thats the word, basically if some situation has occured and someone has been sued for this, the exact same situation HAS to be ruled the exact same way) they need to give back the money.

Otherwise they could be drawn into a court, ANY lawyer could just say "well look at case nr 19274987124 Billy-Bob vs EA" and the court would have to rule in your favor. Because Billy-Bob had the same thing happen to him, and he got his money back.

After reading most of this thread, I am pretty sure there are SC2: Wings of Liberty players on these forums......Where is the hatred for Blizzard doing DRM on the new SC2 series when the first one was launched........everyone cheered and loved it...even the consumers with the worst connection problems at that time(I was one of them) still played the game and enjoyed it.

If you have a PC available to be able to play Sim City 5 then I am pretty sure you have a stable internet connection, unless your on wireless or on the go.

This whole thing is going to fly over us because soon EA will have servers able to handle us and even more, and people will STILL buy their games, they know this, we know this, gg.

EA just was not prepared for the servers, they soon will be.....and this topic will never shred light again.

SC2 has an offline mode after you connect. So the comarison isn't exact but on the other hand Diablo 3 is a way better comparison. I can gladly point you multiple threads with many pages of complaints about connection errors and always online DRM etc. In the end Blizzard did have to give a refund even to just online keys. The point is it will get better like some have said but EA should still be willing to give out refunds to those who want them.

The disdain for EA is well earned. This is just another notch on their bedpost.

Where did you hear that? If that was the case, BC2 would be shut down. As far as I can tell, they've only been doing that for games that have little activity which is understandable since they do have to pay to keep the servers going.
