I can see it now.
Customer - "Yeah, I'll take the chicken marsala, that you advertised on tv...looks good"

Server - "well, we are out. Unfortunately too many of you customers came in here and ordered it so too bad"

Customer - "I'm sorry, I didn't realize I was to blame"

Server - "You know, just because we advertise it doesn't mean you'll get it. I know we said we carry it and it's out biggest selling point, but seriously you shouldn't expect to be able to order it just because we said so."

Customer - "yeah you're right, who was I to expect real integrity any way"

Take it a step further.

Customer: "Yeah, I'll take the chicken marsala, that you advertised on tv...looks good"

Server: Sure, that'll be $10.

......

Server - "well, we are out. No refund for you." Please come again.

After days of customer backlash. Restaurant offers coupons for a free meal, still won't honor refunds.

If that means they have to double up on estimates to make it work, even if it costs them more than they wanted it to, that's their problem, not the consumer because they designed the game that way.

EA = Power Company
Server structure = Power Grid
Player population on release day = Storm

It actually surprisingly makes sense.

Anyway, being a consumer of course you would want the company to pay more and overestimate. However, there's still a lot of uncertainty with that and it's not guaranteed to be problem free. It's cheaper and easier to deal with some negative PR and deal with the problem as it hits and all we do is have to wait a little longer to play the game.

O__o

Who pays for their meal at a restaurant before getting their food?

and it's not like the game will never be able to be played. Apparently it's running well now. If anything it would be like the server saying that they're packed today and that your food may take a little longer than expected.

So you just don't have anything to say. All other services or products that have outages, rarely do any ever offer you get a refund. Because it's assumed that there will be downtime. Always, for everything.

Yea, but if you're going to get pedantic then it woudl have to end like:

Server - "well, we are out. No refund for you. But we'll send it to you in a week or so when we get some back in stock, and here's a coupon for a free meal."

And now this analogy is way too strained.

In fact, many services do offer a refund. If you take your car in and pay for a service, and they don't do a good job of it, do you get your money back? If you order food and get it home and find out your stuff is raw, or items missing you get a refund do you not? Household appliances broken out of box? Return for refund.

A company offering a service that they designed is not the same as a utility provider suffering major down time due to uncontrollable natural disasters. Because in this case, they can control things. They can build enough servers from the start, instead of "Deal with some bad PR because it's cheaper". If they feel entitled to do that, then they should also understand and accommodate users who feel entitled to a refund.

Yep. I don't know about anywhere else, but here you place your order at the counter, pay and get your ticket. A sit down restaurant is different, but even then if something wasn't up to standard you ask for it to get taken off your bill. Which is very much like a refund.

They were talking about regular sit-in restaurants.. What they're saying would make even less sense in a fast food place. xD
post #429 of 668
Fast food makes sense to me. You order your food, pay for it. It arrives and it's burnt or raw etc. You don't say "Oh well, damn, they where really busy, it was rush hour on Friday, I'll let this slide" . You get a manager, and get your money back.

LOL, true. smile.gif

Let's go back to the actual point at hand.

If the game didn't work for people, and they wanted a refund, EA should have refunded them. Amazon did.
