The 1,600+ negative reviews on Amazon may look like a lot, but even if those 1,600 really are legitimate customers feeling the high server loads, that's a pretty minuscule number out of millions.

Your logic is severely skewed. If someone likes the product - why is it dumb to leave review on several places?
I don't see a difference of leaving a review on amazon, newegg or OCN. Are you calling all people leaving reviews on OCN dumb? They bought their electronics on newegg, microcenter, bestbuy...etc.

/facepalm

It is dumb because shoppers on that particular website are very poorly mislead by trolls that didn't even buy the game. I'm solely referring to Amazon reviews with my original comment. If Amazon would lock reviews to only allow people who purchased a product to review it, I'm betting the 1 star reviews would be cut by more than half.

You know what's a miniscule number? The number of 5 star reviews compared to 1 star reviews. thumb.gif

I'll post this again in case you missed it earlier.

I've just chalked it up as a loss and moved on. Maybe in 6 months they'll have it out of paid beta.

Go ahead and continue spewing that this game is perfect, and everybody is making a mountain out of a molehill.

As with anything, those that think a product or game are great are off enjoying it and rarely report that it is great. You always hear about the bad more than the good. Spore was a pretty cool and enjoyable game. Check out the reviews for it on Amazon.

I've never said once that the game is perfect. It has bugs. Name me a single game in gaming history that didn't have any bugs. SC's bugs are pretty minute and actually funny/enjoyable to witness at times. None that I've experienced are game breaking in the slightest bit. Everyone that hates on this game sure enjoy talking about it.

Sorry, but I'm not buying your argument that people who enjoy a game do not report it on Amazon. Or that you always hear more bad then good.

I made sure to only check for EA games to prove my point above.

You haven't disputed anything he's said?

I don't think the concept that people would troll the reviews is exactly far fetched. People did it prior to launch of Battlefield 3 when the whole stupid "Origin secretly browses your tax returns!!11!one" story came out.

Didn't mean the game was bad, people were just using the reviews as a way to protest whether they had played or would play the game or not.

Its not inconceivable that people would do this here either.

You gotta admit, it's still better than WoW. With WoW you don't just buy the game and expansions, you have to buy access to the server to even play it on a monthly basis. Yet, look at the masses of WoW players there are that support the idea of it.

I agree with this just because I think an Amazon review should be made for the Amazon customer community...and there is one of a sorts. In the cases where there are thousands of reviews coming in it isn't so important that half of them might be from trolls...but what if there was only a couple. What if the product was fine, but some one who didn't even own it came on there and left something negative for "fun" (though how that is fun...I don't even want to think about).

As far as SC5 goes...I think it is OK to take the reviews at face value. If they were lies EA would not be doing the free game thing and such. However, like I said...from recent accounts I think the servers are getting better. Now we will see if they will fix the rest of the game.

Yeah I am looking at it as a "Buy to Play" MMO...like Guild Wars or The Secret World (which I am playing some right now). That I can swallow I think...it is really the shift of focus on the game play from single player to mulitplayer. When I play Sim City I want to run the show...not share the stage LOL. I would play a MMO or a mulitplayer shooter if I wanted that. In a game like Sim City I would just relax and play...pause it for three hours...come back to it again. I don't know if I want to take a game like that to the multiplayer level. I am thinking it might be something I have to try before I know. i can ignore the multiplayer aspect...but then I am missing out on how the game was truly intended to be played. Just like soloing in a MMO (which I hate)

I've read through the majority of your posts here and have found little evidence of any statistics that back up your claims.

Sorry, but I'm not buying your argument that people who enjoy a game do not report it on Amazon. Or that you always hear more bad then good.

I made sure to only check for EA games to prove my point above.

How is that proving your point at all? Those games have all been out for years and have but a hundred to a couple of hundred reviews. Of the millions that bought each of those, 100-300 left good reviews on them. The other few million are off playing the game or have already finished enjoying it and haven't bothered to leave good feedback for it.

I'm not siding with EA as a whole. I hate what they've done with so many franchises and their DLC schemes. Specifically in the matter of Sim City: it's a great game, and the complaints about it having a rough launch are senseless, my reasoning being: nearly every online-based game goes through launch day misery as far as server traffic goes. DRM is nothing new, Sim City isn't the only game that uses DRM. And my personal favorite: Sim City isn't Sim City 5. It's a new Sim City 1. Going in with the mentality you had in creating a Sim City 4 city will net you little but failure.
