Unable to revert back to default settings after failed overclock.

Thread Starter
I am very new to overclocking and while trying to overclock my cpu,i think i have messed up a little
Here is what happened ,i overclocked my cpu using multipliers to 4.4 ghz leaving voltage at manual 1.25 v.
Everything was ok.
But then i tried to go higher and tried setting multipliers at 45 ie for 4.5 ghz as i understand.
I got two bsod screens in the process and then windows crashed ,and asked for a recovery.I rather clicked the start normally option and went on after setting everything to default in bios.
Well now here is the problem, cpu z is still showing my old overclock values ie 4.5 ghz and voltage is at 1.304 to 1.4 v,even after i set everything to default in bios!!!!
I tried resetting to default several times again in hope it would work and no ,cpu z still shows 4.5 ghz overclick even when bios is at stock speeds.
And i am inclined to believe cpu z in this case is correct as voltage readings are higher for stock speeds at 1.30 v.
I even re installed windows cleanly and cpu z still is showing 4.5 ghz overclock still...but my bios still shows stock.
So what should i do??
Setting to default in bios is obviously not working so should i manually reset the cmos???and if so how do i do that??
Pc specs.

1. Shut down the computer
2. Switch the power supply off (I like to unplug the power cable also)
3. Locate and remote the battery from the motherboard
4. Wait about 5 minutes and replace the battery back into the board
5. Plug the power supply back in.
6. Switch on
7. Start up computer.

I think nowadays, removing the battery for about 5 minutes is sufficient.
