Strange scaling issue with TV

Hey OCN,

I'm trying to finish building a media pc to hook up to my TV but for some reason the thing won't cooperate... here's the details of whats happeneing.

TV is a 40" Scepter LCD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16889112067

When I hook my Macbook up to it with a mini displayport to HDMI adapter it displays 1080p corner to corner with no fault.

When I try and hook up the media pc it maxes out at 1650x1050. I've tried many different graphics cards and none can get all the way to 1920x1080 without some strange letterboxing or stretching. I've always had up to the minute drivers and even tried rolling back the drivers to no avail. I've also tried messing with the settings on the TV, what few there are, but nothing seems to hit the right note.

I've been trying for months, this is so over my head at this point. I'm hoping one of you can give me some insight!

Look for an option called overscan on your tv(or something similar) and turn if OFF

there doesn't seem to be one

though I've noticed when I have my mac plugged in I have an option called full 100% under the screen size menu which gives me desired result, but when I have the media pc plugged in I don't have that option mad.gif

could it be that I need to use a card with mini display port?

EDIT:

got it working, surprisingly plugging it into the on board video out of a friends computer did the trick so I'll just be buying the same motherboard. thanks to ripsaw for the reply +rep'd
