CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E7400
Motherboard: Asus P5G41T-M LX PLUS
Chipset: Intel G41
Southbridge: Intel 82801GB (ICH7/R)
GPU: EVGA GTX 550TI 2GB
Memory: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
HD: Seagate Barracuda Green ST1000DL002 1TB
PSU: hec HP585D 585W ATX12V Power Supply
No other PCI or PCIx16s running.
No other HDs running.

My brother with the same exact power supply and an E7500 CPU, just picked up an IceQ 7850 2GB. He has had no issues running his card.

Well how about we play a game. My budget is $380.00. How would you invest that money into my rig to handle modern games at max settings? smile.gif

Thanks for all the help so far guys. First time posting here, and I am amazed with how many responses I have received so quickly.

Get the above posted psu and a 7950. It will play almost every game maxed and fit your budget.

Your current psu might work, but it could also fry your pc.

This is a very good PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182066 will handle a 7950 easily like this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125414 and you would still have 20$ to go get lunch biggrin.gif

I am aware the CPU isn't the greatest. But it's an LGA775 board which is quite a pain in the butt to find a decently priced processor for it without replacing the motherboard as well. Another question... Would I gain more performance gaming with a new gpu/psu over a new mobo/cpu (as well as adding an extra 4gb of memory I got laying around)?

Are you planning on upgrading your CPU any time soon?

My biggest concern is that a GTX 680 would be a massive waste of money with that CPU. You need to upgrade the CPU before you do anything else, and that's going to cost at least $250-300 for a decent FX-6xxx, motherboard, and 8GB DDR3 RAM. You can probably get an ivy bridge quad + motherboard + ram as well, but you would be cutting it close money-wise. An AMD setup would be cheaper.

Upgrade your core components first, then save for a new GPU.

EDIT: is this a pre-built computer, or did you custom build it?

NO! DO NOT GET THAT PSU. NO matter what, the PSU is the biggest achillies heal to your system. It doesn't matter how good your system is, have a faulty PSU could ruin everything. It's worth spending the extra $50 bucks to get a reputable PSU. You can easily get a good PSU to power a 680 for only $80

do you live near a microcenter?

Was referring to the Ops current PSU. Rosewill is fine although I would still look for a little more wattage personally.
