[TI] AMD looks to HSA Foundation to avoid AMD64 mistakes

Sony did AMD a massive favour not only directly by picking its accelerated processing unit (APU) as the base for the Playstation 4 CPU but by spending a lot of time talking about AMD during its launch event rather than showing off the actual console. Sony's brand still has influence in the consumer electronics market, an area where AMD's brand has relatively little pull as evidenced by its balance sheet.

The article says its more to do with on-die GPU's ie. GPU's on the same chip as the CPU, but I'm sure the same load sharing between cpu and gpu could be also used for our seperated GPU's.

This. Resources currently ARE shared, but only once dedicated resources are expended. That's when you start getting massive slow downs when your GPU runs out of VRAM, for instance. The latency becomes the largest bottleneck.

Shared resources can keep things running at a much slower pace when they should otherwise crash, but that's about it. Perhaps in a future where interconnects aren't slower than the "meat" of computer hardware itself, this will no longer be an issue.

I think 2014 - ddr4 bandwidth w/o gddr5 latency + 3 module/512 gcn apus and some time for hsa to mature.
