I realized that i need visual studio to install it. However I am not sure on how to get the open cl work. When I run hello world code its on the cpu.

It says on the first page: "The AMD APP SDK package contains the runtime for CPU hardware only. The GPU runtime is included in the Catalyst driver."

Yes I have them both. My question is how to I tell visual studio to use gpu instead of cpu?

I thought that was implied, as a GPU cannot do OOE. Which most stuff is programmed for, the major feature that the CPU still has over lesser parts? I was under the assumption that the code is very linear (GPU), a program that does obvious functions and not something that is versatile like most programs are. Correct me if I'm wrong.

OOE is a chip's architecture feature. I'm talking about the how the code gets executed... not how each instruction is processed within a CPU's pipeline.

I see it, so what your saying is the CPU basically preps the code the GPU will run (lack of better word), hands execution over. I know code, just NOTHING about CUDA/GPU type stuff. I thought you were referencing something else, idk we all get lost sometimes. lol Yeah I get what you mean now. So then does that imply that the GPU cannot just run code on it's own, even if you wrote a program to run on the arch does it have the resources to do what the CPU is doing? I'm guessing that's more to the point of your question isn't it?

Shame Intel and Nvidia didnt get onboard since HSA seems to require a lot more than a few compiler flags to be set. It's gonna be a pain for developers to support multiple standards.
