New SSD Not Working

Thread Starter
Hey Guys,

So ordered my SSD (OCZ Vortex 4 128g) as a secondary gaming drive. The only problem is that it doesn't show up in device manager/disk management, not even the as an unformatted/initialized.

So what i've done so far:

I've triple checked all cables they are all completely and securely placed inside.
I've updated my BIOS.
I've tried updating the firmware of the SSD but it won't let me until i can recognize the device.

Now i can see the Device inside the BIOS. It is there. right under my Primary hard drive. The problem is i can't format it i can't locate it on the disk management and i cant seem to find an answer as to what to do. I must be missing something. If i could see a device listed under like Disk that says initialized i would just format it and be on my way.

I should also note that when i did try to go into the BIOS, it won't let me switch to ANCI or IDE im stuck on Raid which i've heard is okay. Also note that the Smartcheck said it was okay but when i went to run a test on it, it froze up.

Any Questions on spec's or anything just let me know. i just want this to work.

There is no information on your build...
Is this a new build?
New install of OS?

Motherboard type..
SSD
HDD
Motherboard Type
CPUType
What OS?

Try this in the mean time smile.gif

If you are overclocking set to stock settings
Clear the Cmos if you can not get ACHI or IDE..
For anyone to help need more information smile.gif

It's an older build the spec's that you ask for include

Motherboard type: AMD manufacturer: Foxconn, model: 2a92
It is SSD as i said in the title.
CPU Type AMD Athlon II x4 635
OS: windows 7 home premium

I'm not even overclocking just trying to figure out if its a dead brand new drive or if i can get it to even show up in disk management at all.

IDK how to go about clearing the Cmos...

For clearing your Cmos on your mobo, you should see a little watch battery (silver disk looking thing). You turn your PC off. Leave it for like 5 minutes. Pull the battery out. Leave the PC for like 30 minutes. Then you put the battery back in and turn the PC back on.

This is the old fashion way of doing things. Sometimes your mobo might have cmos jumpers, other times it might have a button. However, the battery method should always work.

For figuring out your disk issue, try partition wizard http://www.partition-magic.com/download1.html

This is probably one of my favorite diagnostic tools on the planet. Even if the drive is completely dead, partition wizard will see it and tell you it is dead.

In short partition wizard should see the drive. If it doesn't, then the issue is with your mobo. thumb.gif

IDK how to go about clearing the Cmos...

Because you can not change BIOS to ACHI or IDE you need to clear CMOS...
Battery on your board is in the middle of you board on the bottom. It is silver and round...
Let me know if you see it...

Do you have the Motherboard manual...It is not available online at the Foxconn web-site..
It will tell you how to clear the CMOS if you can not do it yourself..

http://www.findlaptopdriver.com/mainboard-a8m2n-la-front-panel-power-reset/
Look at the Front Panel Picture ans you see battery....
Make sure computer is turned off and unplug from power plug...
Take battery out for a few minutes...
Put back in and boot into CMOS..
Your should now be able to change BIOS to ACHI or IDE...

k so quick update, i tried pulling the battery and also tried default settings from the bios utility page, ACHI and IDE won't let me use them yet. Just forces me to choose RAID0, but let me explain how its not letting me use them.

Everytime i choose ACHI or IDE i get through the boot sequence right after it launches the Windows symbol and brings the color logo into play, it does a 1 second BSOD and then restarts computer with a repair windows option (recommended) option which brings up the status code
0xc000000f

If i go back to the bios launch menu and switch it back to RAID it works perfectly. I suspect i need it to be on ACHI or IDE to actually figure the SATA controller to even Read/Write the drive.
