ArmA 3 is horribly optimized - Page 3

Redmist, heres a challenge, boot up Multi rather than Singleplayer (which isnt taxing in any sort of way) and take a couple screens of your FPS and GPU usage using afterburner or whatever you use.

Id like to see how good your GPU usage is in multi.
Should be atleast 16 players on.

You see, doesnt matter which settings I run, I could run a mix of High-Ultra.
I could run a mix of Low-Ultra.
I could run everything High.
Everything Ultra.

Still TERRRRRRRRRRRIBLE perforamnce in Multi.
Yeah, I'm not arguing with that, Arma 2 is terribly optimized, but isn't it better to get good graphics running at 30 frames per second than crappy graphics running at 30 frames per second? I think so.

I have high hopes that they'll do better with Arma 3. or at least, that if we're getting performance this good in Alpha (Arma 3 Alpha performance = Arma 2 performance), it will be a lot better in the final release once AMD and Nvidia have tweaked drivers.

I'm on it. I'll edit in a bit.

However, one thing that I'd like to say before I do so, is that Arma 3 doesn't currently have a Dedicated server package. All of the current multiplayer servers are Listen servers, which hinders multiplayer performance significantly, so that's a big problem at the moment, and one that definitely will not be there in the future.

EDIT:
This was taken on a 20 player Wasteland server. 80% still isn't ideal, but not terrible either. I tried to get onto the 65 player Reddit Wasteland server, but it was completely full. frown.gif

My framerate in Arma 2 wasteland is typically 50-60.
(Exception being Cherno and Elektro towns cause lack of occluders and poor lods)
And it looks pretty good.

This 20 fps in MP.
40 or so in SP and it doesnt look all that good, it looks nice sure, better, kind of yeah, but the repetition of the trees and bushes ruins the overall visuals.

Alpha.

Jeeze, remind me not to put out a public Alpha or Beta if I ever develop a game.

The thing is, 80% of PC Releases = Beta.
So you cant really use these excuses such as "Alpha" anymore.

No, there's a big difference between a release and an Alpha/Beta test. Just because the internet allows developers to easily let us test their unfinished games as a pre-order bonus doesn't mean we should judge the unfinished game as a final product.

if a developer gives beta code as a release, it's typically glaringly obvious tribes ascend is a great example of this. alpha code is typically not released for public consumption; this is the difference. alpha is not an 'excuse' it's the reality that the game is in early to middle stages of development, and due to the online nature of the game the developer is getting community feedback.

Well, this alpha is for public consumption.
Sooo..

Early would mean there'd be atleast another year before release.
Theyve planned to have the release around autumn.
The beta begins in summer.
