[Forbes] EA Employee Chastises Company Over SimCity in Public Letter - Page 4

EA needs to do a Tim Tebow and take a knee and reflect for being all round terrible at what they do. But at the same time excellent at being the most hated company in America.

Great job EA you'll be hated even more when you release BF4 and no one can play it for the first week either.

With an MMO, even if its annoying, and makes you rage, you can kind of expect that there can be issues with servers and such, and its something we've come to expect at times.

Sim City is a Single Player Game and people can't get why they are having issues like this. Now, when you look at it logically, you would be as understanding as if its an MMO. Because of the design, there will be the same kind of issues that MMO's can suffer from.

That's not the issue here really. People can be understanding, but they just don't know why they should. Why was the game designed this way to begin with? There is very little to no benefit that can't be done with a purely offline client. The pros of always online, could never outweigh the many obvious cons. And that's what people are angry about. It's not that the game is designed that way and due to that there are complications. It's that they don't agree the game should have been designed that way. They feel the game should be able to be purely played offline without issue.

There is really no excuse for this. They could have delivered most everything they have now, with an offline client that could also go online to connect with others and have regional affects. Regional affects could update every 24 hrs or so or whatever.

It's not rocket science. Sit down, do the pros and cons. See that one side is stacked vs the other. Common sense people, common sense. EA preferred... I'm not entirely sure what they chose, pure stupidity? I try to look at this from many different ways, but I just can't see how they expected this to go smooth, the outcome and backlash should have been obvious.

They tripped, and fell face first in cow pie. Now, they can choose to get up and clean the cow pie off their face and fix the game, or they can put on some perfume and pretend nothing happened.

Even if it is build in with multiplayer, its still not an mmo so the whole comparison with an mmo is simply invalid.
You also cannot claim its designed as an mmo when you only have 16 people max in a chatbox/region.

The game is actually quote good. People just can't separate the DRM aspect from the actual game play. Now that EA added 8 new servers, as of yesterday, I have not had any issues.

I wish there was an offline mode as much as the next guy but everyone who did research on the game knew it was online only.

So if you know EA is a terrible company, who has yet to manage to release a functioning always online game of this type, why the heck did you pre-order it!?

EA and other publishers will continue to do this type of stuff as long as people like you give them money for a product that isn't even available yet. If you had waited you would have known about all this server stuff and then you could choose to either skip the game or wait until all this is figured out, if they ever figure it out.

If you really want to pay for a game you can't play yet, why not go and back some Kickstarter projects? At least those projects are taking your money for a real reason, to get the game made.

You do know the opposite is if more people preordered 2+ weeks in advance rather than purchasing it near launch server problems wouldn't be as common as developers would have more accurate numbers to build server capacity off of, right?
