Recommend me a Soundcard

Thread Starter
Greetings.

So within the next 2 months i 'should' be building a new rig for a family member. During this time im taking advanatge of the fact that i've kinda gone off my current case and said family member likes it, so im changing my case. This has prompted me to also do some other changes...namely getting a sandalone sound card, change PSU for one without a coil whine, and upgrade my GPU if the 780 is out by then (not the GTX Titan).

So...

Soundcards.

Iv been asking around and so far the Asus Xonar DX and D2X have been sugested as they are within my price range of around £80.

Questions. Any1 else got other sugestion (or the same)??, and does any1 know diffinitavly what the difference is between the DX and D2X is?? and if its worth the extra £30 price difference to get the D2X??.

Cheers

EDIT: Oh and Music sound quality over Game sound quality..preferably both smile.gif
I like all types of music tbh, Rock, Dance, trance, RnB, Hiphop, Jrock, Jpop..etc...i do like my Bass though ..in all type of music...hence the Z5500 speaker system i got (its 5.1) tongue.gif

The D2X is basically the modernized version of the D2. The main difference is that the D2 is a PCI card while the D2X is a PCI-E x4 card. There are other differences but they are very minor.

Both the D2X and the D2 are way over kill for Logitech Z5500s. You need a good sound system to really get the benefit form a high end discrete sound card like the D2X. The Z5500 are PC speakers and don't rank that high when compared to actual Hi-fi gear.

Something like the Asus Xonar DSX should be more then plenty for your needs.

Get an Asus Xonar DX or alternatively a Creative Soundblaster Z.
Either one will be what you want to pair up to your Z5500.

The D2X has a lot more features than the DX, get the D2X.

If you ever plan on upgrading your speakers I'd buy the D2X just for future proofing.
