Wanting to WC a Lian Li PC-K9WX - Page 2

don't forget you can also put a 120 in the floor of the case, if you're willing to modify the top rails, a 240 rad wouldn't be a problem, a 360 might be a stretch but doable

if you put in slim rads in the top and front, i think you could fit two 360 rads, plus the 120 in the floor, that's a ridiculous amount of rad for a case that size

i still think a 420 rad is too big for the front of the case, i just checked the dimensions of both of our cases, same width, my case is 1mm taller, your cases is 7mm longer
http://www.lian-li.com/v2/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=526&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=62&g=spec
http://www.lancoolpc.com/en/product/product06.php?pr_index=50&cl_index=1&sc_index=25&ss_index=96&g=spec

i though about putting a 420 in my case, but i'd have to cut a hole in the bottom of the case to get it to fit, if you don't mind doing that yea you can fit a 420 in the front, but you'll run into problems with the front feet of the case

I was considering just doing 3x 360s after removing the 5.25 bay. I currently have the power switch and reset removed out of the top and could totally cut the top power ports out to make room for it instead of the bottom. Could use some rubber inserts to make it look more refined as well instead of a hole with a rad sticking out. Would this help with draining the loop as well since the 480's I saw had both front and top inlets/outlets?

As much as I love my case though, doing this the right way with a clean and effective build is starting to look less possible. I have looked over a lot of the recommended cases for watercooling.. I just can't stand the overly plastic look. To get a refined/polished appearance like that of a lian li with a clear side panel starts to cost a lot. Something like a Caselabs is just out of my league for reasonable pricing. It is quite a bother to be so interested in doing something, but feel restricted by the market or what I have on hand.

three 360's in a mid tower case, if you think you can manage

honestly i'd make 3 cardboard mockups of the rads plus fans and a psu mockup to see if you can manage it
i'd love to see three 360's in something so small

Where would I place the third radiator?! I know I could mount on under the top panel and one in the front of the case. A third one would be mounted where? The bottom would be a problem due to the power supply which I will not be relocating. Unless I am sandwiching rads which martinsliquidlabs has reviewed and proven to be more of a loss than a gain in performance.

since you wouldn't be using the bottom 3 slots on the motherboard, you could turn the bottom rad on its side, like this

well something like that, you'd probably have to use a shorter psu, but it's do able i think if you stick to 2 video cards only, but like i said make a few cardboard mockups of different sized rads and see what you can fit in it

forget relocating the psu, keep it where it is and you can probably fit two thin 360's and a 240 with a similar layout but keep the psu where it is

At this point, I believe 2 360mm radiators would be overkill for a 1 gpu 1 cpu system up to a 2 gpu 1 cpu. Considering that most people suggest a 120mm rad space per block, with overclocking tangible, a 120mm and a 360mm would be on par-enough. 2 360's is overkill enough haha.

I've heard this motto, but there are reasonable limits lol. I mean I could just go ahead and order all that liquid nitrogen for my max oc'ing but ya know, gotta pay the bills still haha. The more I get in there and look around, the more I figure I will need to just get a bigger case to accommodate these upgrades accordingly. Its just going to be a cramped mess otherwise!

yea, i know, if i wanted to watercool my 9f, i'd get two(one 30mm thick and one 60-80mm thick) 120mm rads one for the back and one for the bottom(i'd cut a single 120m fan hole in the bottom) and a thick 240mm rad for the front

i'm pretty sure a setup like that should fit with very little modding

mostly because i don't want the hassle to find a way to attach new 5.25" drive bay covers, and i don't want to cut the top panel, it'd still look like a stock case from the outside
