Doubt you would see to much complaining in price if nvidia had a similar alternative. But CPU and GPU comparisons are tough because of how vastly different the markets are. If there was a 3gb titan for $700, I think the 6gb titan would sell far fewer than a 3970x does in terms of Ratio with the lower SKU.

This is all assumption though. Never really seen a scenario like that in the GPU world for a while.

More of a purpose? In what way?

3930K performs exactly the same when using the same frequency, in some benches a bit better actually. They're also used by pretty much all benchers because it's much better to bin 3930Ks than buy half the amount of the extreme edition chips.

Also I'd say the 8800 Ultra situation was somewhat comparable to the intel extreme chips. The card was just an overclocked 8800GTX with a different cooler but the price was extremely high, the thing made no sense, just like extreme chips at the moment.

Cause... 570s certainly ain't getting 60+ in EVERYTHING. Or even in most modern things.

dual 570s at 800MHz+ are about as fast as 580SLI. Two 580s are around 15% faster than a 590. And that means that the dual 570s land at a performance level that's way above a 7970GHz.

The difference between GPU generations is always exaggerated by people for some reason. That's why the difference between the Titan and current cards is also viewed as small but in reality, It's bigger than the difference between a 7970 and a gtx580.

You cannot compare Video cards to cpu. While a cpu will last for a very long time a video card will last 2 years maxed before being completely worthless.

I know you love your video card but come on man.... thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

You were fighting against the dual card thing and now look who is talking about it.... Come on man.... thumbsdownsmileyanim.gif

I said current dual setups and single setups aren't in direct competition.

Yes there are issues with dual GPUs but I won't deny that a current dual setup is faster than my titan in pure fps. Just like a 570 SLI setup OCd is faster than a 7970. I just think it's weird people say that a card is useless after a year lol, obviously two 570s still do a great job.

Also the CPU thing depends on what you're doing with the CPU. They can be "worthless" in the same way GPUs are in just as short of a time.

Wow bias much?
What cpu costingv $1000 made by intel 3 years ago that is worthless for anything?

I am not even going to entertain the dual gpu argument with you after all the Titan thread....

Worthless is a strong word, no CPU from 3 years ago is worthless because you can still do stuff with them but useless in the same way as people say GPUs are useless (which is to say not at all in reality).

But for example since I like to bench: http://ark.intel.com/products/37149/Intel-Core-i7-965-Processor-Extreme-Edition-8M-Cache-3_20-GHz-6_40-GTs-Intel-QPI

Wouldn't want to be stuck with that since it's a C0 chip that probably wouldn't reach 4ghz.

Or this: http://ark.intel.com/products/37153/Intel-Core-i7-975-Processor-Extreme-Edition-8M-Cache-3_33-GHz-6_40-GTs-Intel-QPI

Ok that is what I thought. You had to make up something.

From what I know it is still a very good cpu for anything today. It doesn't need to be at 4ghz to perform well.

Point proven.

A gtx 570 is useless. When titan gets useless you will either add another for sli or upgrade.

No offence but a 570 isn't too far behind your 7870 bro.

It will still play console ports well.Titan may not be as fortunate as we deal with new unoptimized next gen ports.

Then again we will all be feeling the pain tongue.gif

Because at 1080p the 7870 is on average a mere 7% faster than a GTX570.

I still don't get the "GPUs become worthless after a year" argument. Yes they can become that if you're the kind of person who just needs the latest and the greatest but they still performs more than fine. They're good for real world performance even though they might not be able to compete in the latest benching scenes. Just like CPUs (hint: 3d benching on old intels and current AMDs is a pain)

My single 470 is close to being 3 years old, and I'm currently playing Sleeping Dogs on Extreme textures, played Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Tomb Raider....

Basically, I've yet to come across a game I can't play on my 47" 1080p TV. So, tell me how a card is useless after 2 years.
