7950 BSOD atikmpag.sys - Page 2

What about your CPU, is that overclocked? During my OC venture on my 3570k, the ati driver would crash when I didn't have enough voltage.

As a update to all downgrading drivers to 13.1 has not fixed the error for me, just got the same BSOD

I'm thinking now maybe an unstable cpu or ram overclock so I have boosted voltages slightly and will see how that goes and let you all know...

Instead of chasing your tail. Why not go back to stock on everything? I.e. no CPU/Ram overclock. If that fixes it, then start your overclock over (CPU first of course).

Another update for all, I read somewhere that uninstalling the KB2778344 Windows Update will fix the bsod problem and so far so good, normally I get the bsod atleast once a day and its been a couple with no bsod's so I recommend all to try and report!!...

I will try this next if the bsod happens again

Before I try this, I would need to know what it is I'm uninstalling (not just the name) I need to know what it's used for, what are the negative effects of uninstalling it, how would it affect my system in the long run (by removing something I have no idea of).

Well for a start its a windows update so its not essential, when you installed windows you didn't have it but your windows install was fine

If I remember rightly its a security update of some sort and I remember it being amd cpu specific

I will try and find out exactly what it is but as I don't have it anymore I don't have the link windows provides that tells you what it is

EDIT: This is all I could find:

A security issue has been identified that could allow an authenticated local attacker to compromise your system and gain control over it.

Vulnerabilities in Windows Kernel-Mode Driver Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (2778344)

This security update resolves 30 privately reported vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows. The vulnerabilities could allow elevation of privilege if an attacker logs on to the system and runs a specially crafted application. An attacker must have valid logon credentials and be able to log on locally to exploit the vulnerabilities.

So basically it sounds like its stopping someone from getting admin privileges if they are logged in as a normal user on your machine... Sounds like we don't really need it to me

P.S I still haven't had the BSOD since removing the update
