[TweakTown] SimCity won't be going offline as Maxis have 'no intentions' of doing so - Page 4

I won't be buying it then. I'll just stick to SC4.

You're right, there is no real reason doing it. Apart from

Getting people to like them more after they messed it up
Stop people demanding refunds because the servers can't handle it
Potentially more sales (the always online thing and streaming save data is why I haven't bought it, and I'm sure I'm not the only one)

Oh wait... no they're not, they're upset the ONLINE mode isn't working as advertised.

Exactly, making it offline will get rid of that problem.

A majority of people planing on pirating the game are going to either pirate it or not play it at all, so they have almost nothing to lose there, but they could win so much goodwill, and buyers if they they did what the gaming community asked them to do. I mean, even if I would be interested in the SimCity series I would after buying it make damn-sure I could play it offline if I wanted to. I don't like being forced to do things, least of all how and when and where i can play with the things I bought...

It may, but at least that will allow the customers who actually bought the game to play it.

I don't know about you guys but if the servers go down while I'm in-game I can play for upwards of a half hour to an hour without being kicked out of my offline session; I don't lose any city-wide functionality.

Ea are giving more reasons for people to hack their game , they should have allowed their customers to play offline since origin allow offline play.
The problem with Maxis changing things in SimCity and allowing it to be played offline is that is basically proves that they and EA are LIARS.
Quote:
There is a massive amount of computing that goes into all of this, and GlassBox works by attributing portions of the computing to EA servers (the cloud) and some on the player’s local computer,” Bradshaw writes.

To think that my machine can't handle this game offline (Overclocked 4 core w/hyper threading and 2 video cards) is laughable. Given that the average user doesn't even have HALF of what my system is, before overclocking, I seriously doubt that "my portion" of the computational power needed to play is drawing ANY power from their servers.

You're surprised?

It's funny that this issue is so hot right now though. I currently can't play Anno 2070, a single player game, because their servers aren't responding for whatever reason. I can't log into my offline game.

Yay! Are we having fun yet?

Not in the least. EA has been a bunch of liars for years now. I'm just saying that if they changed it, they would be forced to admit it. biggrin.gif
post #39 of 99
Wait I remember in one of the first videos they did about the Always online that they would have an offline mode for people who don't have internet but you lose some of the multiplayer features which no one cares about anyways. I just want to build a city!

Not really. If they patch it, people will buy it, people will play it and some will pirate it.

At the moment, people won't buy it, people can't play it and nobody can pirate it.

Loosing X% to pirates is better than loosing 99% of paying customers
